Tricky to classify, and yet nothing terribly new. Kind of interesting and kind of not, simultaneously trying to embrace its characters and have ironic detachment from them. After a while I wanted Brewer to just commit to being trashy instead of pussyfooting around it. The weakest link is Ricci. Her performance is unconvincing and a bit condescending. However, the Jackson character is quite intriguing. Not a bad movie, I enjoyed it. I just wish it had a little more... something.

Got to see Cristina Ricci's boobies, And more than that. Not that i'm a perv, just worth a mention. Good film too, I guess.

Christina Ricci is pretty much the only reason I watched it to the end.

Christina Ricci on a chain half naked and wanting sex...how could this movie blow...it was boring to me...it had a few scenes that i thought were ok..but on a whole its boring

A surprisingly strong effort, anchored by Jackson's performance, Ricci's hawtness and the pervasive presence of southern blues rock. Again Brewer casts his gaze on shallow character archetypes, mining them for as much depth as humanly possible. I prefer Hustle & Flow, but this odd couple have chemistry and the bizarre concept opens the door to some great dialogues. The script is shaky at times, but makes perfect use of religion as motivation without preaching. A strangely enjoyable film.

For an exploitation film throwback it's pretty tame, and for a standard drama it's pretty weird. Not Samuel L. Jackson or Christina Ricci's best work.

For as provocative and original as this film is, I honestly left feeling as though I had not seen anything new. The filmmakers concentrated too hard on making it as sexually aggresive as possible than mending an interesting story. However, Ricci's hotness and the soundtrack alone makes it worth a view.

Wild, but not entirely successful. A film about redemption via conservative religion within the plot of a porn film. Wild, no?
