Astonishing and perfect. British cast of less known actors is just superb. A real must see for any Dickens/british social drama fan.

This adaptation sees the worst in people, and while its interpretation of Dickens' prose is sharp when it comes to finding fault the perspective feels incomplete for want of a bit more humanity. Stylistically the cinematography is anachronistic, with audible cues and cuts that feel out of place given the series' period and style. Regardless, Bleak House is rife well deserved invective and indignation, and here it is acted out by an exceptional cast with a great deal of care.

True to form for so many costume dramas: plenty of costume, not enough drama

A great retelling of a very weighty novel that manages to contain most of the subplots and still feel accessible, even to someone who isn't a fan of Dickens. Anderson is very dark and brooding in her role as Lady Dedlock, but the top prize has to go to Dennis Lawson's amazing turn as the charming and cheerful John Jarndyce. Well worth the effort, even considering its substantial length.
