Some nice moments (at one point the bird seems to fly out of the screen at you, and some moments are amusing), and I like how the animation is timed to the music, but for the most part the film hurts my eyes a bit with its constant blinking...
I don't think there really is any story at all here. McLaren shows us that he's just as interested in being an abstract filmmaker as Stan Brakhage, only he puts a bit more effort into his creations. He's proving to have a batting average about as good as Brakhage's, too, if not better
You know, "making it up as you go along" could actually describe almost all of these films, but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Here it doesn't. Some of the bird-themed bits are okay, but the more abstract stuff is dull.
