Really cool movie, done in a kind of faux documentary style. The editing and constant moving from soldiers to protestors builds suspense in a really original way. Characters are also good and are well acted.

I'm stunned. Paul Greengrass' angry camera leaves you in permanent tension through the first act, and when the slaughter begins, you experience that strange feeling of being a survivor of that, like if you were watching the massacre and couldn't do nothing to stop it. I guess I've never seen such a strong movie about a real event in my life.

An absolutely absorbing film experience. Paul Greengrass puts you in the center of a hurricane better than perhaps anyone in history.

Such a strong film. I felt so lonely and hopeless at times watching this. This film shows one of the scandalous events that should never be forgotten in a most shocking, yet moving and strong way. Really liked the way the movie was built.

Raw and brutal account of the 1972 incident. You can love or hate the hand held camera work, as well as the film's obvious allegiance to the protesters, but you cannot deny that this is gruesomely effective cinema.

The problem facing historical films is that viewers know the ending already, so developing tension can be difficult. Greengrass provides us with a masterclass in this respect, first showing us the optimism of the marchers and contrasting that with the intentions of the British army. The camera is hand held and Greengrass avoids ever showing us the whole picture, which only adds to the sense of chaos. A word should be spared for James Nesbitt, who fits seemlessly into the Derry landscape.
