The adults-as-children gimmick and rural dialogue feel a little heavyhanded at times, and proceedings do take a little while to get going, but it's a fair demonstration of exactly how cruel children can be; when the ending finally rolls round, it feels like a fair payoff for what has gone before, and is bundled with several impressive performances (especially from Mirren and Duvitski).
