It takes a while to get going, but once it does it's like Rear Window, but with sex instead of a wheelchair.

What a silly little film

The first half is tediously protracted, but the second half is quite good. Just when I was about to turn it off, it finally became interesting. This features another great murder scene by De Palma.

The movie that made me realize just HOW much I hate Brian DePalma.

Brian De Palma is on some crazy pills - a lot of crazy pills.

A very tenuously plotted thriller brimming with Hitchcock homages. As always De Palma's style is very ostentatious bordering on garishness.

The moment Melanie Griffith pops up this goes from not bad to great, she's too funny. Every DePalma movie should just end with these credits

Body Double is like the lovechild of Hitchcock and Lynch. It keeps you guessing and holds your interest.

First half drags on like no tomorrow and, despite a somewhat skillful Hitchcock homage, the film just isn't that interesting. Also you have to give them credit for trying to make a protagonist who "unwillingly" becomes a male pornographic star. The movie actually picks up at that point as Melanie Griffith is absolutely fantastic and hilarious. Overall it's not good though and I don't think I've ever seen worse "indian" makeup in my entire life, it's so bad it's almost blackface.

Some movies use "dream logic" but Body Double uses "cocaine logic". Halfway into this film I thought it was garbage, and by the end I thought it might be genius.

Sensual, mysterious and enthusiastic!

Some good parts, but unfortunately not a great whole. Some really awesome set pieces (for example, the drill scene) are bogged down by things such as an impromptu Frankie Goes to Hollywood performance. Granted, I'm not usually against an impromptu Frankie Goes to Hollywood performance, but it was completely out of place here. Still not a complete loss like many critics led you to believe when it came out, however.

People criticize this movie for not having a very coherent plot. Not every movie is a plot movie, and I don't think De Palma was even concerned about "plot" while he was making this. It's more like an exercise in style and Hitchcock tributes with a few bonus elements thrown in, e.g. Tippi Hedren's daughter playing a kooky pornography star, and another great score from Pino Donaggio

It's trash, Craig Wasson is pug ugly, and the music and hairdos are ridiculously early 80's crappy, but it's fairly entertaining and suspenseful still.
