This film's steamy atmosphere and moody music is pleasantly pervasive, and makes a wonderful canvas for the noir thriller that unfolds. The dialogue and direction embrace the genre, and Turner's femme fatale is a wonderfully distant seductress. However, the plot itself isn't innovative, and Hurt's character is oddly inconsistent. The script seems to want him to come off as too clever for his own good, but his missteps seem uncharacteristic given the history they establish for him early on.

Excellent sultry neo-noir. The dialogue between Turner and Hurt is smouldering, and she was born to play this femme fatale.

Damn fine neo noir, it relies heavily on atmosphere and succeeds admirably. Hurt and Turner are electric together and the mix of passion and tension are intertwined really well, truly taking what was subtext in many noirs and brining it right to the forefront.

Turner has her moments of sexy, but not that many. After some good opening scenes, this movie trips down the mountain of cheesy and suffers a terrible, violent fall before disintegrating into the mundane & unbelievable desperation and stupidity of all of its characters.

Even though I'm a huge sucker for film noir, Body Heat never quite got me going. It has its strengths, like the heat wave atmosphere, but the story always feels commonplace and very, very forgettable. Also, I wouldn't kill a dog for Kathleen Turner. She's just not that hot.

There were a couple of things that made this extra enjoyable for me: The fact that I'd only seen War of the Roses/Serial Mom Kathleen Turner, and that I've never seen Double Indemnity. I went into the movie fresh, and it's awesome. The casting is great (Danson and Rourke were unbelievably charming in supporting roles), and even though some overstate "atmosphere", Body Heat absolutely has it. It's sweaty, stuffy, sexy, and all noir (even if the dialogue seems cheesy occasionally).

Turner plays a great femme fatale and Hurt is pretty good as well. A well made and intriguing neo-noir. Didn't even recognize Mickey Rourke, I saw the credits and was like Mickey Rourke was in this?

Around the same time that Lawrence Kasdan's scripts for Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark were being lavishly produced by George Lucas, Kasdan directed this smaller, lower-profile work by himself. No epic spaceship battles here or sprawling adventures, but rather one of those "Postman Rings Twice" crime dramas, where wife and lover conspire to kill and heir her husband. It is better than most of them. The text excels, and William Hurt shines in the lead.

Extraordinary 80s noir throwback notable for its establishment of an opressive atmosphere of heat and sweat. Hurt and Turner make a perfect couple, their dialogue crackles with as much energy as Bogart and Bacall in THE BIG SLEEP, and Ted Danson scores strongly in support as Hurt's eccentric friend (love those Astaire dance moves!). Also features great John Barry score. Definitely Lawrence Kasdan's best before he settled into perfunctory entertainments.

This is what film noir looks like in 1981, right at the point when 70's grit was giving way to 80's high-gloss. It teeters on the precipice of the two styles. The dialogue is lush and beautifully constructed. William Hurt is marvelous as the shaky lawyer at the forefront of the story, but the true MVP is Kathleen Turner, an actress with the dark-voiced presence of Bacall and the acting chops of Stanwyck. She was made for this sort of role and she commands the screen with a smoldering authority.

Some people probably think that this is either a remake or a reimagining of Double Indemnity. However, there are some of us that don't find Body Heat the least bit derivative & actually think it's better. All the little noir touches are present (ceiling fans, blazing heat, the woman in white) but it's given a provocative 80s gloss that's just mesmerizing. Kathleen Turner truly goes for broke here. She is the queen of all she surveys. Very, very sexy movie...
