Bad Movie

Far from Clive Barkers best but a solid experience.

epic fail

Adapted from a (pretty good, actually) story that lasted less than ten pages and really only existed to set up an anthology; the movie is basically the same thing, stretched to transparency. All in all, an underwhelming experience. The ending was also a little more literal than it needed to be. A perennial favorite of the Chiller channel programmers. Not because it's good, but because it's cheap and has a name attached.

As with most Barker adaptions the film doesn't do justice to the source material. What starts as an intriguing premise quickly falls into the dull cliches of the haunted house sub-genre. The majority of the film is rendered pointless by the opening scene and ending and as such feels a very empty experience. Sophie Ward also gives the worst female horror performance I've seen in years.

Clive Barker is fixed with skin mutilation and sex. If the movie worked on some level, the main story sucked very deep. The consept was interesting, but the conclusion spoiled every high hopes. Lots of usual and lame twists.
