Bobby Bowfinger, a nearly bankrupt aspiring movie producer-director, is about to take one last shot at fame and fortune. Desperate to hit the big time, the hapless dreamer recruits a motley crew of aspiring misfits, including an eager nerd, an ambitious ingenue and an overthe-hill diva. With their help, Bowfinger embarks on a radical, ingenious scheme to trick the biggest name in movies into becoming the star of his ultra-low budget film. (Universal Pictures)

Wonderful, farcical comedy starts at a fever pitch and incredibly keeps on building and building, largely thanks to Martin's clever screenplay and a career-best effort for Murphy, who is equally hilarious (and even touching) sending up his own movie star persona, as well as portraying his own dopey lookalike. Perfectly cast right down the line, (Graham and Stamp are also standouts) and handled with aplomb by Oz. Largely limited interactions between Martin and Murphy is perhaps the only odd note.

Occasionally cringe, often hilarious. But a wonderful reminder that if you dream big, lie through your teeth, take advantage of the desperate, refuse to pay hard workers, repeatedly invade people's personal space, prostitute yourself, and encourage the delusions of mentally unstable celebrities... you too can make a mainstream movie that sucks needles and launches your career :). Written by the jerk and directed by Fozzie Bear. Eddie Murphy is actually really good in this.

A last best effort for both Martin and Murphy, in yet another ode to the joy and magic of filmmaking. It may be the only movie ever to feature Murphy in dual roles and still be actually funny, and he shines in both of them -- the highway sequence is just hysterical. It takes great shots at Scientology long before it was hip to do so, and the cast is a treat. I hope that this smart and funny script was regarded as a flop isn't the cause for Martin's recent career nosedive. He can still write.

Highly entertaining and indeed clever premise for a film that is mostly well executed. A lot of fun, even if it does push the boundaries of the ridiculous a little too far on some occasions.

I remember hating this movie the first time I watched it but I was also 17 at that time so that might have had something to do with it. I was able to enjoy the movie much more now that I have watched it at 40. The premise of the movie is interesting. A failed producer has an idea to get himself and his crew of failed actors on top. The movie has a lot of fun hijinx. I really love Heather Graham's character in this movie. The background of the faux-Scientology group is interesting as well.

Had completely missed this little gem of a comedy. It's not high art and some of the jokes work better than others do for sure, but I will never stop having fun watching Murphy do his thing in the pre-Norbit era. I just wanted to watch something light-hearted for a change and the movie worked great for that. Also I want to see the last movie they made because those fights were just the best.

(Viewed on 04/03/11): Martin's comedic targets were far too obvious for a man with considerable industry experience, but one can't but help go along with the premise in spite of its complete absurdity.Ultimately, it suffers from a misguided sense of its own cleverness. It's really a toothless farce that gets by on the charm of its central players who are well supported by the likes of Baranski. It was probably the last time Martin and Murphy produced some honest laughs too.

What is this movie supposed to be? I was honestly baffled by it. Because in reality, the whole concept is pathetically stupid. I have no idea why Steve Martin would write this, why he and Eddie Murphy would want to star in it, and why critics love this thing. It's not even remotely realistic, funny, or in any way an entertaining commentary or engaging satire on the filmmaking industry. Ok, Murphy is funny as the geeky twin brother of Kit, but otherwise this movie is terribly unfunny.

I rediscovered this in the last couple of years and it's just clicked with me ever since. Martin and Murphy are both on form here, with the latter excellent in his underrated dual role performance. Very much a modern day version of Ed Wood where you end up rooting for these deluded fools who dream of seeing their work on the silver screen. Gotcha Suckas!

Probably the best Steve Martin film to come out in a while, although I don't think that's saying much. Some good laughs here and there but it has Heather Graham in it and honestly I think she's a pretty terrible actress, which kind of worked out here as her character is a terrible actress. Anyhow, it's an alright comedy with some good laughs.

Never being a fan of Steve martin, but a huge fan of Eddie Murphy i decided to give this a go. Too bad this was made when neither of them were funny, and far past their primes. This should have been made in the 80'd. But then the uber hottie heather graham wudn't have been in it. Oh well, cant have em all.Still not a terrible movie, a slight giggle here n there, half decent script, pretty good acting even at points! For the bored nights

A cool concept, it worked ok. Big fan of Eddie Murphy in this one. More so playing the actor than the nerd, cause in a way it made me start to think of how Eddie Murphy might be in real life, and that was hilarious. Graham is a babe, and her presence makes many things better. The movie as a whole was pretty cheesy but ok.
