Inspired by true events, Breach is a dramatic thriller set inside the halls of the FBI -- the gatekeeper of the nation's most sensitive and potentially volatile secrets. It was honestly very, very good. No silly action or ridiculous side plots, just a very, very good spy movie. Chris Cooper is absolutely amazing in this film and I wouldn't be surprised if this is the role he's remembered for. Ryan Phillippe is also excellent and I firmly believe he deserves credit for his performance as well.

A smart and highly competent spy movie; Ray makes no attempt to tug the heartstrings or pump up adrenaline with overdone action sequences. It's a textbook model of allowing good acting and writing to create tension and interest. I'd definitely recommend this.

Very good espionage trill with some good camerawork and a story that's built very good. Chris Cooper is superb but also Ryan Phillippe is outstanding. It's a powerful story and if you know that it's also a true story, it's even more extraordinary.

Phenomenal FBI film, Chris Cooper is absolutely dynamite in this role, probably Ryan Phillippe at his best, Laura Linney is a very strong character whom you can't help but sympathize with.

this movie is so underrated! chris cooper should have won an emmy or something for his performance here. ryan phillippe does a great job as the hero and laura linney is really good in her dead serious role. the story is brilliant and really keeps people on the edge of their seat.

Makes the mistake of focusing on the bland Phillippe rather than the great Cooper -- we're given next to no insight about what makes Hanssen tick, and in the end the whole thing is a waste.

They keep using the word "worst" in this movie in a way that makes it seem like Hanssen spent his time talking into a shoe phone. And if he did, I bet Chris Cooper could totally sell it--the deadly serious but reverent menace as an odor-eater falls out onto his face. Ryan Phillipe has yet to convince me of his talent, and Laura Linney is good, but not good enough to make you forget how badly her dialogue is written.

Chris Cooper shows why he should have more starring roles, as his performance has everything to do with why this movie was engaging, dramatic, and smart.

The tension of the political/spy subject matter is heightened by Chris Cooper wearing more makeup than a rodeo clown turning tricks in Time Square.

A suspense different. It has no big scares, the suspense is all on account of empathy with the characters and expect to know the truth.

Breach is a rare type of movie. It manages to be quite thrilling despite you knowing the ending. You know how specific scenes will play out as soon as they start, and yet they excite you regardless. Chris Cooper's performance drives the film forward, and without him making for a scary, yet sympathetic villain, we would have no movie. It's not a biopic, and I'm sure much of it was dramatized, but this is one journey that is definitely worth taking.

I thought it was a pretty good movie with a decent amount of suspense. However, what was so astounding and shocking for me personally was the fact that as I was watching the movie, I started realizing that I know one of the characters being portrayed personally as I used to be a colleague of hers when i lived in the States. Namely, Juliana. So for me personally this is a movie that I can't possibly ever forget.

It's thanks to Chris Cooper's portrayal of the highly intelligent, deeply religious Hanssen who is so convinced of his own righteousness that he doesn't recognize he behaves like a sullen child that Breach is worth watching.

There's relatively little insight into the life of Robert Hanssen, the history he has had, and how he has effected the United States within this movie, which proves to be a bit disappointing.

If you're looking for hardcore action, this is the wrong movie for you. If you on the other hand are looking for a really good thriller, you might be on to something here. Although a bit slow at places, "Breach" provides great suspense and during some parts it really sucked me in. Copper provides excellent, down to earth acting and Phillippe ain't too far behind. A good movie.

The whole thing could have stood some better writing, but it's decent entertainment. Chris Cooper is (fortunately) excellent, and Laura Linney is, as always, entrancing. And I like Ryan Phillippe the grown-up actor inifinitely more than RP the twink.

Taut, violence-free espionage thriller about capturing red-handed the perpetrator of the biggest US security breach ever. Both Cooper and the sometimes underestimated Phillippe are equally fine with a subtle script that interrogates the psychologies of a traitor and an ambitious aspiring agent as they get to know each other's betrayals and loyalties. Despite the assured outcome, director Ray never lets us feel comfortable with any quick judgements or the open questions raised. Refreshing.

Decent cast, performances and script in this based-on-true-story spy-catching tale that manages to hold your attention throughout, and even throw in a couple of genuinely suspenseful scenes to boot. The humdrum stuff with Eric and his wife aside, there's nothing wrong with Breach at all: it just misses that extra little something to raise it above many other similar efforts.

Far too much time is spent with Phillipe and his wife, both of whom are total blanks. Still, Chris Cooper is excellent despite the lack of any real development, and Laura Linney is also very good as his chief pursuer.

Really liked the sense of sadness that permeated the climax. It would have been easy for a movie like this to grandstand and celebrate justice being done. Rather, it reminded us what a sad man Hanssen was.

Billy Ray's directing debut Shattered Glass had complete confidence in the dramatic power of intelligent people figuring out deception. In it's best moments, his follow-up Breach shares some of the same qualities. Unfortunately, Ray too often indulges in dramatic license that rings false. When immersed in the methodical, frustrating effort to get close to the paranoid Hanssen, the film is at its best, filled with shrewd, telling details and fascinating interplay between the characters.

Despite the based-on-a-true-story-fact and really great acting (!), I still needed something more to engage in the thrill.
