another one of my early teen films that i must have watched 100 times. i probably cannot give this an honest review bc of that, but i'd still watch it if i ran across it on tv. pryor had clearly lost a step by this time, but he still manages some laughs with his exasperations and john candy is always john candy

An absolute tour-de-force by Pryor, as he carries this picture from beginning to end. Moranis and Candy are good too, but the film is a testament to Pryor's greatness. Everything starts from an amusing, witty premise, and proceeds forward with a relentless pace and numerous clever jokes. However, what makes this film even better is the criticism of politicians and various "do-gooders", selfishly out for themselves. A great, memorable comedy.

One of my favorite Movies when I was a child.

Very much of its era, but also very watchable and amusing.

I like the concept, but it's not as funny as you'd probably expect...Actually it's not really funny at all.

Not especially daring, but still fairly empowering. Richard Pryor was pretty much always the heroic little guy by default, same goes for John Candy as the blue collar snarkist-- and this film certainly breaks no new ground for those archetypes, but they're great at those archetypes, and who can complain about somebody doing something they're great at, whether it's the first time or millionth time.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH JOHN CANDY'S CHARACTER AT THE END. I WANT A SENSE OF CLOSURE, HE SEEMS SAD. DONT LEAVE ME WITH A SAD JOHN CANDY.

A comedy that wavers a little too much. There are some really funny lines and parts but overall it's underwhelming considering how funny both Pryor and Candy are in other movies.The concept itself is decent enough and it does keep you entertained throughout, but the ending sells out (in typical 80s comedy fashion) and at the end it just feels like it's potential was greater than the end product.
