Summary: From the team behind international smash hit "Bend It Like Beckham," comes a Jane Austen adaptation like never before. "Pride and Prejudice" gets the Bollywood treatment, and the result is a spectacular fusion of East meets West. Austen's classic love story unfolds in a riot of colour and emotion, song and dance that jet-sets from rural India via London to Los Angeles. (Pathe Pictures)
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice with an Asian twist! Full of beautiful Bollywood actresses, good acting and a sweet story plot. More for romance/musical lovers and girls' nights in! Not really one for the blokes.
The crux of this movie is liking the protagonist and wanting her to find a her true love and live happily ever after, thus you feel good when she does find the right man. this has one fatal flaw. She's a total bitch! I didn't feel any affection for this intolerant snob, the happy ending didn't satify me because i'd've rather seen her burnt at the stake.
Fun music, charmingly funny take on the Pride and Prejudice story, gorgeous actresses that I hope to see in more films over in the states, but the film's overall quality was low, and it was too cutesy. Ugh!
It may be breezy and fun to watch in its own limited, mostly vapid way, but there's little sense to be made out of this mix of international sensibilities.
No, it's not going to unite the world and it looks especially unnecessary in the wake of the brilliant Pride & Prejudice that came out later in the year and earned several Oscar nominations, but the attitude here is near-target and as a campy Clueless-via-Bollywood, it works. Barely.
When they weren't singing, the film was decent enough. I usually enjoy different types of music and I like my fair share of musicals, but the music here didn't do much for me.
