We interrupt your regular scheduled programming to bring you this special bulletin... Broadcast News is a 2+hour piece of garbage. Alb-Brooks acting was worse than my first grade performance as the troll in 3Billy Goats Gruff. Holly Hunter's voice is annoying. I reapeat this movie is an overrated piece of basura. Why was this nominated for so many awards? Am I missing something. Do I need to go back in time and watch it in the 80s? Hey Holly get on the bleepin plane!!!!

Network-lite. It's pleasant enough, and not painful to watch at all. Even genuinely funny in several places--especially Albert Brooks. But Network's critique of the media is so much more incisive and interesting and daring than what we find here. And since Network came out a decade before this, I can't help but see this as a kind of watered down version of the earlier film. All that said, Joan Cusack's run with the tape was definitely worth my time.

"Broadcast News" is probably too facile to be fully satisfying, but I liked it anyway. Thanks to Brooks' sharp, zany dialogue, energetic direction and three lovely lead performances by Hunter, Brooks and Hurt, the film is a gentle, funny and definitely entertaining romantic comedy, although the critique of networks felt too soft (unlike in Lumet's "Network"). It's filled with enough superbly written and acted scenes to overlook many of its flaws and label it as a worth-seeing picture overall.

Ah, the days when Brooks had a directorial vision for his films. This is probably him at the top of his game. A sharp script breathed to life by three terrific performers that adequately predicts the future of news television. It is a Brooks film, though, so we know we're getting a romantic comedy too. That easily could've bogged the film down, but Brooks manages to juggle both the romance and social commentary together perfectly, making us care about the characters and their morals.

The insidiousness of TV's approach to storytelling style and structure demonstrably mars Broadcast News, James L. Brooks's perfunctory portrayal of a media love triangle. Perverting the cinematic experience with his TV-level manner of directing and writing, Brooks achieves only the most synthetic approximation of dramatic and emotional resonance, if any. You recognise what he's attempting but you know that he fails because you feel like you're watching a sitcom -- not a movie. It's a non-event.

Couldn't help but enjoy this even though it embodies most things that I kind of hate in a film. It's not exactly outstanding, but it's really charming, and if you're going to watch an 80's rom-com this one is smarter than the others. A real antique. Score is not a grade.

Lacks the punch needed to be a really great or memorable movie. The scenes are well done but it never takes a chance or does anything that would be worth talking about ever. I will never understand why directors cast the best actor (in this case Nicholson) in a part where he is almost never on screen, it just makes no sense. Utilize your best assets. A decent movie but way overrated.

I just noticed that I haven't ranked this, which is odd considering I remember it being one of the first I ranked. Huh. Either way, clear classic-Simpsons influence oozes from this film, and even without that, it's still charming on its own. Much better than Terms of Endearment. Now to see if I actually ranked that...
