Summary: A young French soldier in World War I is overcome with guilt whenever he kills a German soldier who, like himself, is a musically gifted conscript, each having attended the same musical conservatory in France. The fact that the incident occurred in war does not assuage his guilt. He travels to Germany to meet the man's family. (imdb)

This is a very interesting serious film from Ernst Lubitsch. A totally serious Phillips Holmes does well as the soldier with the demons and few can play a warming old man like Lionel Barrymore can. Nancy Carroll is cute and together they make the town talk and the movie viewer feel good. Lubitsch escape the difficult situations with the story but there is still a lot of little moments of emotion and suspense of what is right and wrong with a predicament where a killer visits his victims family.
