Paranoia 101. Not as masterful as Polanski's Repulsion, but solid enough to stand out from contemporary horror films. It works interestingly, when put together with real conspiracy theories. What if that the was truth? It is so easy to make people look crazy.

A good play shouldn't seem like a play when it's made into a film. This movie is obviously a converted play, from Tracy Letts and Exorcist director William Friedkin. The claustrophobia angle is well-produced, but the movie runs out of things to do after a while and ultimately falls flat.

I only watched this because of Tek-one. It was a good choice.

What the hell did I just watch? And why do I want to watch it again?? For a film that is so tough to take seriously (I laughed a LOT), it sure manages to get under your skin. I couldn't stop thinking about this film for days after seeing it. I went in expecting a creepy-crawly horror film, but what I got was far more unnerving. Michael Shannon gives a superlative performance, and largely carries the film on his shoulders. Laughable, sure, but a slow descent into madness that sticks with you.

A frightening downward spiral into paranoia, physical mutilation and madness. Long takes and a believeable main cast help sell the on paper flimsy sounding concept. Will leave you exhausted and uncomfortable.

Fantastic performances, especially the magnificent Michael Shannon, cannot save this shaky story that is quite simply unbelievable.

A very grabbing, very paranoid thriller.

You could tell this was meant to be a theater play. The whole film depends on the outstanding acting performances of the two leads. And for two thirds of the film, it holds the viewer dumbstruck by its intensity. However, the third act gives away to a very formulaic "descent into madness".

Not great, but good performance by Judd.

...what the fuck just happened?!

There's very little to this film but it's still pretty hard not to find it unnerving. Michael Shannon made my skin crawl.

Too much like a play, not really utilizing any cinematic options; therefore a bit inorganic but solid writing and performances all around.

After a string of stinkers, Friedkin makes an awesome film.

Based on Tracy Letts play, Bug is a frightening psychological horror featuring brilliant performances from Ashley Judd as an out-of-luck waitress haunted by her ex-con husband and her emotional demons and Michael Shannon, reprising his stage role, as a delusional soldier who takes her into his world of conspiracy, paranoia, and seclusion. Friedken captures their mental scars in minimalist fashion, using subtle framing and understated dialogue rather than cheap parlor tricks and over editing.

Ashley Judd's "I am the super mother bug" monologue is the sickest thing I've ever seen.

Better than the Exorcist

Superb psychological thriller, a study on paranoia with fierce performances from Shannon and specially Ashley Judd.

Great performances by the three main characters. Was expecting a horror, but got a decent psychological thriller.

All 30 points go to Ashley Judds smooth acting and maybe a little for the suspense in the beginning. The rest of the film is just wierd and boring mostly because you expect something completly different than just gibberish.

Fantastic perfomances by the cast, great sense of suspense. Friedkin in top shape.

Ashely Judd is very good here. Story starts interestingly, grows like a good movie, but the truth in the end... Scary anyway.
