Summary: The feature debut of Paul King, director of the phenomenally successful TV series, The Mighty Boosh, Bunny and the Bull is a road movie set entirely in a flat. Stephen Turnbull hasn’t been outside in months, he refuses to interact with the world until a sudden infestation of mice forces him to relive a disastrous trek around Europe with his friend Bunny, a womanising, gambling-addicted booze-hound. It isn't "Mighty Boosh: The Movie" like people were expecting and it's all the better for it. Visually stunning and equal parts dark and heart warming, "Bunny and the Bull" is one of the most entertaining low budget indy films of recent years.

It's a hit and miss mish-mash of sketches and vignettes, but it's wonderfully imaginative and beautifully put together. I was taken by surprise a bit by the eventual dramatic payoff, but that's definitely a positive. Certainly more focused than any of the longer Mighty Boosh live shows.

The film has a home-made aesthetic which is very creative and Michel Gondry-like, employing handcrafted paper backgrounds and seamless animation techniques. Unfortunately the two main characters, who are supposed to have a Withnail & I-like rapport, do nothing to get you on their side. One is a rash bully, the other is a wimp, and I lost interest after 30 minutes. The cameos by "Britain's finest comedians" are wasted, apart from one laugh-out-loud moment involving a dog's nipples.

Ultimately, and unfortunately, Bunny and the Bull does highlight one inevitable conclusion. Whilst a director of some visual flair, King has shown little evidence of being able to pen a script with much substance. Unable to raise more than the odd titter, usually via the game performance of Echegui, Bunny and the Bull fails at being a succesful comedy and is much too slight to be emotionally or dramatically satisfying. It reminds me of Eagle vs. Shark - a hip, youthful dramedy. You know, the kind art-school dropouts enjoy. Visually it is very interesting (a la Science of Sleep), but suffers from the same problem Eagle vs. Shark does - the storyline is poor, and sometimes a bit too crude.

A good hearted and visually brilliant buddy road movie with an original narrative. Very nice movie debut for King and nice to see the Boosh in small roles.

I had very high expectations seeing Richard Ayoade in the cast, I was very let down to say the least.

Visually very interesting and it manages to overcome a small buget in inventive ways. Unfortunately the plot weak and the two main characters feel like a poor man's Mighty Boosh, plus it contains the most irritating love story ever.
