The comedy just falls flat, mainly because it's just not a thing to joke about, given all the implications. A waste of a cast, although I did enjoy Ronnie Corbett.

Pleasant, if forgettable, little comedy. Feels very simple and straightforward, but has a nice little retro atmosphere to it. I was on the verge of growing bored near the end, but fortunately it's quite short.

All the right technical elements were in play, and I loved spotting so many British comedy actors and actresses! But the whole thing was a bit lacklustre, sadly.

Brutally bludgeoning blokes in early 19th century Scotland and selling the fresh corpses to science in order to fund an all-whore production of Macbeth? But does it have a cameo appearance by 70s stop-motion special effects overlord Ray Harryhausen? Wait...it does? Oh, well then, welcome to the green tiers.

Another entertaining but forgeable movie from Simon Pegg, while it does have its moments of hilarity it lacks anything in the form of originality and can only fall back on its historic basis and strong cast to set it apart from all the other superior comedies out there. At the end of the day the success or failure of any 'funny' film will always fall on its jokes, and in Burke and Hare they just ant up to scratch.

Just goes to show that no matter how much of a great cast you have and how many great cameos you throw in, they simply do not make a good film.

A little predictable, but overall a fun movie. It was interesting to watch this and then research and compare what happened to the real-life counterparts. The only part I didn't like was in the closing - the narrator was critical of one of the two main characters but wasn't of the other. Just didn't seem quite fair to me - they were both involved, not just one. Otherwise, yeah, I can dig it.

A 'different' twist to this story and not in a good way. Comedy's hit and miss, mostly miss and trying to make these characters likeable after all they did is rather ludicrous in itself.

Marrying grave-robbing with silly slapstick comedy seems an impossible task and so it proves for famous American director John Landis. Despite an all star British cast and an impressive 19th century set, the balance is off with daft comedy at every turn and virtually nothing serious enough to represent the truth of what must have been a gruesome reality.

Has a few laughs along the way, but overall the unbelievable talent (Pegg, Serkis, Fisher, Wilkinson, Curry) is completely wasted in a messy told story. Certainly a gory bore.

Despite my long-standing disgust with John Landis for the Twilight Zone fiasco, I begrudgingly admire Burke and Hare, which strays just far enough outside the boundaries of good taste to be wickedly amusing...even if it doesn't live up to its full potential.

The slapstick and theatricality in this would be perfectly at home 25 years ago, which is kinda of what makes it interesting. It presents similar attitudes and tastes of 80s horror/comedy, being Landis and all, and does so with surprising consistency. In the end, the film paints a much more nuanced critique of society and attitudes towards death and institutional power than people give it credit. The spoofy tone maybe undermines that a bit, though. The parade of awesome British actors was great.

Not only does the comedy feel weak and cheap (when it's present at all), the difficulties in the plot stop this from being anything more than the most passable of entertainment. Pegg and Serkis do their best, but they're given very little to work with, and the supporting cast isn't really up to scratch. Very disappointing.

If we're treating this as an adaption of the actual tale, which we should really in some respects, then this is an absolute joke. It just seems to be a 'spoof', which when based on such a serious subject, is just wrong. Hardly ever serious, and full to the brim of slapstick and vulgar comedy moments. The balance in this isn't right. Not by a long shot. Not even the feast of cameo roles by some very famous faces of British comedy can lift this from the graveyard.
