Basically a PG-13 Showgirls - in other words, completely pointless.

Cher gives off this wild Dr. Frank-N-Furter energy in the opening song that is never captured again. The songs are not memorable but ... but ... the butts on display here are the light. PG Showgirls.

Not particularly campy, just bad. Ploddingly derivative, there isn't a shred of originality 2 b found anywhere. Aguilera is an "also good on the inside" small town gal who wants nothing more than 2 get on stage, as she reminds us 4 & 5 times over. Then there's the conniving less-talented bitch she'd better watch out 4, the good-hearted mentor, the business about 2 go bust, the shady realtor who wants 2 buy the place, the soulful artist love interest, & even the gay costume guy. Connect the dots

much like the word "burlesque" itself (which sounds like someone vomiting after a long while of trying to hold it in), this movie takes something that should be beautiful and manages to make it weird and repulsive. i won't even go into how utterly detached from reality everything in here is, because movies like "coyote ugly" or "showgirls" should've prepared you for that. let's just say: if you have 90 minutes to spare and like both christina aguilera and cher...i hate you.

A waste of time and money, this is a film that could have been campy and fun but instead was over-serious and self-important and was dragged down by piles of terrible performances. It seems to have been merely a venue to create more singles for its two leads, all of which were silly and poorly produced.

There is no acting even from Cher. Cause there is no script to make a impressive acting. All is about dancing, singing and "how can we show cristina's voice?" worries... I gave my points to Cher song performance thats all...

Not terrible, damn good music, very showy. Cher, luminous as always.

Surprisingly enjoyable film, spotlighting a welcome return to the screen by an ageless Cher, who provides an excellent performance, plus delivers a socko musical number. Aguilera is quite engaging, and always wonderful Tucci is amusing in support. Story is usual rags-to-riches/girl-meets-boy formula, and tends to be a little hokey and silly at times, but film ultimately emerges as a winner. One minor quibble: Combination of pop and showtunes on the soundtrack is sometimes jarring.

Showcasing Aguilera's attempt to sound like a 50-year-old black woman in the guise of white appropriation, Burlesque sells a myth about show business that is both unwelcome and shopworn.

Well, this flick was pretty painful to watch. Terribly edited, directed and the arc was non-existing. And the story showed only something you've already seen billions times before. Nothing original. Aguilera can sing, I like her style, but that did not make her an actress. The long, blond wig on her was horrible. Only Stanley Tucci went through his part gracefully.

Great spectacle, the fun music and Cher were the best part. Boring, cliched story was the worst.

Tucci shows again that he can out-act anyone in a film with his glasses alone. Cher comes to life forcefully and Aguilera does ok singing. Reading about the casting I'm sure glad I didn't have to sit through Emma Stone trying to fill the character portrayed by Bell, as no amount of acting could patch up that black hole. More flash than substance, and it's wafer-thin at it's core, but ultimately doesn't do enough wrong to make you dislike it, if you're predisposed to like musicals. I am. It's ok.

Un chouette divertissement aux numéros sexy. Aguilera fait ce qu'elle sait faire le mieux, Cher est à son meilleur, la gente masculine tape à l’œil, surtout ce délicieux et très bien monté Cam Gigandet.

While the acting wasn't that hot, the dancing and costumes deserve a mention which is the reason I gave it a higher score than most.

Considering that a great deal of this movie takes the form of plot exposition via musical montage, I do not understand how long it is. You can guess literally everything that happens within the first ten minutes, and to be honest the song and dance numbers aren't even that impressive. The performers just happen to be in their pants. And there isn't even the remotest hint of what burlesque actually is. It is just Xtina in her pants. That's it. Shit.

The story probably took all of two minutes to copy and paste from other scripts, but ever since Cabaret I have a weakness for this type of music. There are moments when this movie evokes a nice retro cabaret feeling, but then they will suddenly do an r'n'b number.

Story and plot is garbage. However you can't stop yourself watching it again and again and again because of the few brilliant emotional moments in it. Cher is fantastic btw, as is Stanley Tucci

Better than Moulin Rouge and would have been even better without Cher. Still, I gotta saw not my cup of tea and lets just say when I was invited to the movies I didn't know this was on the docket of what to watch. Better than I expected and still stupid.

Given that I don't like either of their voices this was -in hindsight- an obviously poor choice in another attempt to 'get' musicals. Still, didn't expect women dancing around in underwear to get boring quite that quickly.

Definitely better than I ever really thought it could be, it never really becomes anything special which is also what I expected. There is talent involved but most of the acting felt forced and it had a feel good ending that definitely came out of left field. Oh well, it passed some time and I guess that is the sole purpose of a film sometimes.

she sings wonderfully as always but Christina Aguilera should continue her acting career only in her music videos... terrible acting (except Tucci; he is playing this part for all his life so he`s good), average songs, not original dance numbers, cliche plot make it a depressingly average musical...Cher sings beautifully (only 2 songs) but because of all the plastic surgeries, her face didnt move the entire movie (except when she had tears in her eyes; i think she was sad)

Burlesque was better than I thought it would be, but I thought it would be horrible. There's some good acting turns from Tucci, Cumming, and even Cher. I found the movie to be a mix of Cabaret and Moulin Rouge, with Cumming playing a Joel Grey-type. I found the first 30-45 minutes to be the best and it was sort of downhill from there.

Surprisingly, Antin's ear for dialogue isn't bad--the only writing virtue in evidence. This thing embraces--and expects us to take seriously (!)--every cliché and creaky plot device from the backstage musical melodramas of the '30's and '40's. The trappings are updated, but the naive, annoying wholesomeness at its heart is the same. Decent camera work, at least--it looks a lot like "Chicago", except infinitely more intelligently shot. Stanley Tucci?? I hope you were paid a LOT for this.

A poor film in almost every regard. Exemplifies the way 2000's culture manages to be eye-rollingly sexualizing while somehow also snore-inducingly prudish. It's the appearance of edge with no risks or human bravery. It's the appearance of artistry with no art to back it up.

"Burlesque" is a musical that's didn't have the songs to carry the film. Not one song stuck with me or made me feel I'd like to hear it again. It was talented people performing uninspiring music wrapped around a predictable love story.

The movie is as paint by numbers as they get, anybody that watches the first ten minutes knows every plot beat to come, and they’re all dumb. The one truly fascinating thing is how a movie that is about 70 percent young attractive women in various stages of undress dancing suggestively can be so utterly devoid of any eroticism.

Woefully tedious melodrama. Some mildly entertaining musical numbers drowned by one note characters, stiff acting and a chat GPT script.
