I was going through Jennifer Garner's filmography and remembered that I actually watched Valentine's Day, so THAT is the worst Jennifer Garner movie I've seen. I can't believe it's not Butter!

I'm going to write a comedy about [any activity], and people who take it really seriously. Butter carving. Remote control helicopters. Synchronized swimming. Dog shows. Pedophilia. Bake sales. Bee keeping. See? It's easy.

Very similar to Election, but not nearly as good. Has some funny moments and clever ideas, but it's a little uneven. It also tries for some sincere emotion, which just doesn't work given the tone of the film. Still, pretty funny though

Writing a really dry comedy is very difficult as it can easily veer straight into unfunny. I didn't find this funny at all but I can see why someone else might like it

Decent satire, even if it does hit you over the head with it at times. And Olivia Wilde calls Jennifer Garner a cunt, worth the admission price just for that

Again, another movie whose purpose I just can't decipher...whose creator's intentions, I just don't understand. It's not very dramatic...or comedic. It's kind of a satire, except when it's not, and it wants to be a heartwarmer. Some easy targets are lampooned and nothing meaningful or interesting is expressed. A young orphan girl is extremely talented at carving things made out of butter, so you know it's kind of wacky in an indie-rific way. I dunno. Nice to see Alicia Silverstone, though.

I was pleasantly surprised by Butter. While it's not a ground-breaking, this film is funny, charming and has a lot of heart. The cast do a great job, though Jackman is a little underwhelming. Shahidi, Corddry and Wilde are a delight to watch, playing very likeable characters. For a film about butter carving (and conservative hypocrisy), it's great.

Olivia Wilde is great in this. Sexy as hell (even more than usual) and quite the badass. I don't recall seeing her in a role quite like this; it suits her well. Garner delivers the displeased, dissatisfied stone face really well, providing perfect contrast to the little sweet girl. But the story with those two never really takes off. They should have kept more focus on the husband's side story, where most of the humor came from in the first half of the film.

Starts off with promise but turns into an extremely heavy handed pseudo-satire that wastes its talent in clichés and one dimensional characters.

A movie about... well, butter. Butter carving that is. Garner is the wife of a successful butter carver in Iowa and has to retire because he wins too much. Garner decides to take over the family business and finds herself pitted up against a talented little foster child. I thought this movie had a lot of beautiful moments, even though it really made fun of people in the midwest (so creative). I did love Wilde in this though, she was a crazy stripper bent on getting her money from Burrell.

Butter starts out with some promise but it runs out of steam halfway through and in its final half is repetitive and dull. It has a lot of talent in front of the camera, and while many of the actors get a chance to shine for a few scenes, they aren't able to carry this film for the entirety of its running time. The jokes eventually wear thin, the plot is wrapped up at the 45-minute mark, and it just sits there, idling, from there on out.

This is an entertaining film. The ensemble cast does a good job. The performance by Yara Shahidi really stand out in this film. The script is well done. Overall I would recommend this film.

Mike Judge + Christopher Guest = Hipster Rednecks. Nothing is really laugh out loud funny. Its just always bubbling right under the surface enough to keep a smile on your face. Not to mention at its core is a very charming and endearing story with an excellent cast.

Not so much about jokes as it is about being non-PC, without ever taking cheap shots, and weird, without ever overdoing it. Smith's film is never amazing, but it's consistently amusing, his peculiar humour a breath of fresh air. Everyone in the cast does a really good job, Garner shining the brightest. And if you fancy Olivia Wilde in the least: see it.

Pretty bad indie rip-off. There could have been a cool movie underneath all that saturated fat of one-dimensional characters, poor writing, and fake ass quirkiness. The film tried way too hard to be meaningful and eccentric. It missed most of the time on both marks. The well-acted silent suffering of Ty Burrell was the only redeeming quality in this over-churned slop.

It's a backwater story about butter carving. But it reels in a surprisingly charming, funny, meaningful, and even tense drama! I really enjoyed it!

Not the best or most original plot, and it relies heavily on stereotypes, but the cast is pretty great. It's often very funny as well, and it's good to see Jennifer Garner play against type (well, her type) even if it is a bit heavy-handed.
