Ultimate 90's wish fulfillment. The premise is tons of fun, and the characters have their moments. Lloyd is clearly having fun getting to play dress-up throughout the film.

like if christopher lloyd starred in a goofy kids remake of michel brault's LE TEMPS PERDU? this really is so much better than it has any right to be, and it treats its children characters with a staggering amount of respect, and so many scenes are just positively lovely ("i'm just glad there's two of us."
