The backdrop of the "religious Zionist" society - the settlers - has virtually no bearing on the central subjects of this movie. Director Cedar is an ex-settler who drifted toward the political left, and the apolitical Campfire is a possible attempt to give a human face to a sector that is maligned and unpopular even among Israeli audiences. What we get is a very typical Israeli melodrama with familiar themes and derivative plot devices, but a slightly different setting.
