Summary: Caotica Ana is the story-journey of Ana during four years of her life, from 18 to 22. A countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7... until 0, like in hypnosis, through which Ana proves that she does not live alone, that her existence seems like a continuation of other lives of young women who died in a tragic way, all at the age of 22, and who live in the abyss of her unconscious memory. This is her chaos. Ana is the princess and the monster of this feminist fable against the tyranny of the white man. (imdb)

Like several of Medem's films, covers themes of identity, subconscious, sex, and the female gender, in a way which is somewhat incoherent but not completely displeasing. Ana's transglobal, transtemporal and transcorporeal journey was interesting material, but some of the secondary characters were just annoying (and incomprehensible!) Probing, poetic, and a little perverse.

Medem is a director with both visual flair and ideas, but in this case the ideas were poor, and the film descends deeper and deeper into a morass. Even though the title character is rather unlikable, the viewer may just be willing to go along with the increasingly silly plot in order to see how things turn out. Unfortunately, the conclusion is abysmal. Compares very unfavourably to the thematically-related von Trier movies, "Breaking the Waves" and "Antichrist," and Aronofsky's "The Fountain."

Fragmented, unreasonable, illogical stories of perception Medem have been forming are getting better with every try. Ana is quite colorful in many aspects.
