The story never stops moving forward and with Flynn leading the adventure the time flies by. Some great set pieces, appearances by the lovely Olivia de Havilland, what more could one ask for.

An adventure classic for good reason. It's a great story that never drags, and Blood has an idealistic center the likes of which Hollywood hasn't shown for decades. The acting is excellent all around too. The pirate code that Blood writes, and Ms. Bishop's expectations of him as a person make for some thought-provoking material. Overall, it's a fun and well-paced movie.

This is starting to show its age, but it is still pretty entertaining. The sea fights are good, Flynn and De Havilland are both young and beautiful, nd Rathbone is excellent as the vulgar pirate with pretentions to gentility. All in all, not a bad way to pass the time.

Errol Flynnis a perfect pirate! This films shows the complete transformation from doctor to slave to pirate of Peter Blood, and how he stays true to the course it takes to earnthe freedom that was taken from him.

This was a fun film hampered a little by a long set up and not enough action for my taste. The final battle sequence holds up pretty well for a film this old.

Wanted to love it, but didn't. I found it difficult to reconcile the rollicking fun which the cast seemed to be having with the consistently dark themes of slavery, revenge, betrayal, etc. Robin Hood - or even The Crimson Pirate - it ain't.

Nothing outstanding to report here, and I don't like Errol Flynn very much. Still, it was consistently entertaining for 2 hours, which is more than you can say about a lot of movies.

Errol Flynn doing his swashbuckling thing; it's utterly lighthearted and amusing, a must for pirate fans who want to see the genre in its childhood. Of course Errol Flynn in a ninja film would have been far superior.

A trifling entertainment, to be sure, but a great one at that. The film really picks up steam in its second half as former doctor Blood seemingly casts off all principles and becomes a pirate. Flynn is dashing in the lead role, de Haviland never looked more beautiful, and Rathbone is wonderfully villainous in his small but significant role. Curtiz frames the action well, while the rousing sword fights and raging sea battles gain momentum throughout the film.

swash-buckling at its best, it has some considerably good effects for it's time, they actually blew up an entire ship! errol flynn is great, and the little puns that are frequent are also entertaining. a great story and well made.
