Just about as interesting as it is annoying, the dialog and performances are great, but the whole thing grates on the nerves. Its not hard to watch this, even if it might cause a bit of a headache.

The actors were all fantastic and were a lot of fun to watch. I enjoyed it, for the most part. I think it got a little silly and over the top in the second half, but it was still entertaining. The ending was pretty lacking too. It was far from perfectly executed, but it was a short, amusing film with a few nice little insights into married couples.

A really good movie with very good dialogues and acting. The entire casts acting is really good and the movie is funny and charming in its own way. The movie portrays a true picture comedy of manners or the lack off in todays upper middle class. A must watch entertainer.

great comedy without much pretension. bet the actors had a ball filming this. though the dialogue is still really good, itd be interesting to see what some other director (most obviously: woody allen) would have done.

Decent, but not as sharp nor as funny as it pretends to be, and though well-acted especially Winslet and Foster seems to have no clue who their characters are. It's hard not to wonder, what an Ingmar Bergman or a Woody Allen could have made of this.

John C. Reilly seems to be in everything lately. Who still finds his always the same character interesting? Great cast, otherwise. Movies based on a play often lack cinematic qualities, but Polanski is a veteran who could do anything right. Carnage doesn't leave much after it ends, but I always enjoy a good battle of wits.

It's evident from the start that Carnage is intelligently written. There's realism in the dialogue, with a few hilarious moments. Its quest to gradually step up the carnage then grows more and more labored, ultimately overwrought. It seems to be a rehash of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", superior to the source but still not great. Despite the best efforts of the script, its strongest points are the performances and cinematography.

I have no problem with films that lay their themes on the table, as a subtle script is not always synonymous with an intelligent one. When it comes to chamber dramas like this, which are quite verbose and claustrophobic, it helps to keep things more lowkey and realistic. Carnage opens well, but it quickly devolves into something that feels very stagey. By the end, the characters are shouting the film's themes at each other, and thereafter terminating what credibility remained to the proceedings.

Civilized conversation turns into primitive fury between two couples trying to come in terms with a conflict between their sons. Polanski's film is splendidly acted and ridiculously funny in its revealing depiction of socially correct behavior. Still, thematically, it isn't anything utterly special.
