This was based off of the play "God of Carnage" by Yasmina Reza and it was awesome! Everyone in the cast of four was incredible. Christopher Waltz was definitely the best in this with John C. Reilly in a close second. The two women (Foster and Winslet) also did a great job but the guys stole the show. Rated R for its language only. Waltz with his overuse of his cell phone was really funny and Winslet throwing up on the coffee table was pretty gross but hilarious. A must see!

An interesting actor leading project. All clears good, though I was pleased to see Christopher Waltz in a different kind of role.

It's fun to see what should've been a simple meeting slowly spin out of control into a horribly awkward mess. Carnage looks good, has a great cast and some fun dialogue, but the concept wears a bit thin after a while and its ending felt unsatisfying.

John C. Reilly seems to be in everything lately. Who still finds his always the same character interesting? Great cast, otherwise. Movies based on a play often lack cinematic qualities, but Polanski is a veteran who could do anything right. Carnage doesn't leave much after it ends, but I always enjoy a good battle of wits.

I have no problem with films that lay their themes on the table, as a subtle script is not always synonymous with an intelligent one. When it comes to chamber dramas like this, which are quite verbose and claustrophobic, it helps to keep things more lowkey and realistic. Carnage opens well, but it quickly devolves into something that feels very stagey. By the end, the characters are shouting the film's themes at each other, and thereafter terminating what credibility remained to the proceedings.

Funny and intelligent is a winning combination. For me cinema gets no better than when talented actors deliver interesting dialogue. I don't mind theatricality one bit. Even though it pushed believability a few times, I had a blast with this movie - so much so that I was a bit dissatisfied with the short running time and the somewhat abrupt ending.

Well, I never watched the play, but Polanski's fast-paced, talky and acid Brooklyn-based adaptation to the screen is savage, brutal and ironic enough to engage any viewer with the cynicism and self-consciousness of its four characters.

Given its cast, director and premise, "Carnage" had all the potential to become terrific -so it comes as a mild disappointment that it's merely solid and only hints at the more complex issues a better script could have dug into. The four actors are all good, with no one stepping out of their comfort zone. Taking a rather listless approach, Polanski has made the weakest installment of his Apartments of Horror series -offers some laughs, a little insight and 80 minutes of passable entertainment.

Dialogue-heavy dramas often excite me. Even when this film was released to tepid responses, I still anticipated it. Carnage opens well, and while I had a few problems with the script early on, I was engaged. Truthfully, I was engaged the whole time, but in a worse and worse way by the end. The characters devolve into caricatures of themselves - Winslet unconvincing, Foster overdoing it, and Reilly and Waltz being assholes. It's the fault of everyone involved that the acting stops connecting.

As an idea, it's genius; as a cast showcase, it's fine; as a directorial effort, it's perfectly competent. Unfortunately, the script feels far too staged and hokey, and while it might work in a theatre it doesn't translate particularly well to film, and the result doesn't give anyone involved much to work with. If it wasn't for the seemingly arbitrary motivational shifts of the characters, this might have been a much more cohesive and interesting.

The performances are good, but the conflict could have been better and I wish it were longer. I think it was obviously striving for something like Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?, but there was pretty much no way it could reach that level.

Good performances and great dialogue keep it compelling all the way through, never feeling overly talky like some dialogue-driven films can. However, the ending is abrupt and not quite satisfying. It doesn't feel like a natural culmination of everything that has come before.
