By some distance Pixar's worst movie. But that said it's not all bad. It still looks great, and it is for the most part witty and amusing. It is a shame however that the characters and the story are not up to Pixar's usual standards. A few moments of Pixar magic do shine through, but they are all to brief, as "Cars" lacks the depth and endearing emotional quality of so many other Pixar movies.

Only Disney and Lasseter could have come up with this movie. The idea of the characters being cars is beyond moronic but somehow they pull it off. The mix of the douche baggedness of Lightning McQueen and the almost zenlike stupidity of Mater forms a symbiosis I can't even explain. I am however left with the a sneaking suspicion that this movie was made only for the visual gags and endless merchandising opportunities. Not a masterpiece but given the premise of talking cars it actually works.

Some people call it Pixar's worst and least original. You know they're lying, because Pixar can't do anything wrong. And it might be a little less original than their other films, but still you get a kick out of it

Cute and funny Pixar film with excellent CGI but a bit too much of a paint by numbers plot to really impress. It's certainly not bad by any stretch but I think it's one of the weaker Pixar films because its plot is quite cliche. Still it delivers good laughs and has the trademark Pixar charm so if you've enjoyed their other films this one would be worth seeing.

This was the first Pixar movie I've been forced to watch (I've seen a couple of my own volition, not many) on account of my son. It's strange watching something with someone that still requires you to inform them which scenes are funny. It's like watching Mel Brooks with my wife. Or later Mel Brooks by myself. My biggest takeaway from Cars is that I still have a crush on Bonnie Hunt.

After six films ranging from good to outstanding, this Lasseter passion project represents Pixar's first real misfire. The story is unoriginal and the characters lack both imagination and affability, but most disappointing of all is the film's lack of any effective emotional core; it's all machine and no heart.

The weakest of the Pixar movies I've seen (all of them) but still a very good film. I think the failing is just in the script for me. too sappy, not enough funny. plus Owen Wilson is a tube. In any other studios hands I could see this being a dud. Pixar have the ability to bring life to ANYTHING, which they proved with there first short with the mom and baby lamp. You can really buy that there's a world full of cars going about their every day life. Only seen it once but there looks to be a

Visually decent. Story was nothing spectacular, but really, Pixar's stories are rarely that unique. The problem with Cars was that it didn't have all the beautiful little touches that made Toy Story and Ratatouille so perfect. If they'd gotten rid of half the redneck (Tractor tipping? Seriously?) and polished it more, it could have been great. As it was, merely OK.

For a film that tells such an engaging story and delivers such solid, redemptive themes, then, it's mildly disappointing to have to issue any disclaimers at all. It's as if animation rivals DreamWorks and Pixar are both suddenly trying out new middle ground. DreamWorks dialed down the content concerns in their latest release, Over the Hedge; Disney and Pixar have (ever so slightly) revved them up. (pluggedin.com)

It is full of typical Pixar charm and does a good job of representing the fully motorized world that the film takes place in, but lacks some of the inspiration of previous efforts. While it might not be quite up to releases from the rest of the Pixar bunch, it is definitely no sour grape either. An enjoyable film, with only a few flaws to mention but also one that provides nothing remarkable or memorable.

Cars is a pretty simple movie aimed at kids. If it wasn't created by Pixar, we wouldn't be giving it a second thought, passing it off as another children's movie that doesn't really do a whole lot right or wrong, and will provide moderate entertainment to anyone that watches it. That's really all it is. It's Doc Hollywood with talking cars, and is nowhere near as interesting as that might sound. It's predictable, kind of funny, and has a point, but it lacks impact behind everything it does.

As has been the stigma; a charming film, but along with 'A Bug's Life' it's at the bottom of Pixar's impressive resume. It's outright a kid's flick as a comedy, lacking some of the tact and maturity viewers have come to expect from these filmmakers. As an homage to NASCAR and 50s Americana, it has an overly 'sponsored' feeling about it. Cameos are forced and add nothing to the story. Thankfully, it's a visual treat and a wholesome message about friendship and loyalty are its redeeming qualities.

Cheesy and formulaic but steadily grows on you and is still better than most of the talking-animal animations that flood the market. As always with Pixar the visuals are impressive but it's the sound here - from roaring race engines to the delicate subtlety of tyres slowly crunching over loose gravel - that really adds to the atmosphere. Obviously made with a lot of love and attention by vehicle fanatics, even if it still fails to achieve the impossible task of making NASCAR exciting.

Wow. A lot better than I was expecting. I'd wrote Cars off as little more than a contractual obligation but it is actually a great movie and apparently the most under rated Pixar movie. It's the first Pixar movie to be good, not great; the story drags in spots (for a movie about cars, it's one of the slower animated movies out there), but the great voicework (even by Larry the Cable Guy. Seriously. Pixar, I shouldn't have doubted your decisions in that regard) will tide you over (Michael Keaton is great, but underused). It just seems like Lasseter had a world he wanted to create, more than a story he wanted to tell; luckily, the Pixar folks are gifted storytellers anyway.

Can Pixar do anything wrong? Certainly, and sooner or later, they will. But not yet. Each of their movies so far was a success, some became instant classics. Cars is technically perfect - every car has it's distinct personality, the landscapes are striking, difficult to animate objects and effects like water and reflections seem to pose no technical problems for Pixar, and most important: the animated characters have a heart and soul, even minor supporting characters (my favorite: Guido, the
