4- might want to skip this one, not that hot :: The underlying message was okay, the spy stuff was neat and the rest of the film was subpar ...especially for Pixar.

Okay... let me get this right. You take the comic release from the first movie and make him the main character in the second movie. I'm not really sure... scratch that I AM sure that Larry the Cable Guy do NOT have what it takes to carry a movie on his own. All in all not a bad movie, but it lacks that special touch a Lasseter movie often has. In all honesty this movie reminds me a lot of when Joey Tribiani moved to California and I think we all know how that went.

Way better than the original, but still one of pixar's poorest. Gotta love the imitations of famous people in car form like the pope and the queen.

I expected little from this, Cars being the one franchise that truly underwhelmed in its first go around. The film met my expectations as an entertaining and pretty diversion, with little of the real heart and charm of its studio's other franchises. In this instance, the filmmakers have failed to realize that while Mater works tolerably well as a supporting character, he has no hope of carrying the film.

The movie is not bad but it didnt meet to the expectation that was set by the earlier movie. The story seems to be targeted to an adult audience. The movie was entertaining but lacked the raw innocence that the first part had. IMHO the sequel wasnt required if this what was envisioned.

This is the first Pixar film I have not liked. The original Cars wasn't great especially by their standards but this sequel was highly unnecessary and ultimately dreadful. It offered nothing at all. I would go on but I just don't care at all.

Pixar goes cash-cow milking, leaving their usual quality standards behind and instead promoting a, quite frankly, scary morale to all kids: "Once Big Oil, always Big Oil", as the line goes at the end. Are you kidding me, Lasseter?!

While this movie had a decent story and some good action scenes, it felt very different in comparison to the first movie. Almost seemed like it could have been something else entirely. I guess what bugged me the most about it was that we spend the majority of the movie in amusement of Mater the tow truck and his antics, but the moral of the story is that we should accept people and not laugh at them for being themselves. Doesn't that seem a little hypocritical?

Why Pixar decided to make a sequel to what was clearly their least well received & least box-office profitable movie is a sadly no mystery... merchandise sales! Worst of all Pixar abandoned a new project for this! So potentially this shitfest cost us another "Up" or "WALL·E". Only the opening scene is of any real worth, afterwhich it's downhill fast! Laughs are rare, characters are shallow & irritating, & the settings bland. Then the Queen at the end... oh fuck off! Sad giving a Pixar flick 19!

Mater is too irritating a character to be a successful lead, and while the spy subplot is a nice touch, Caine sounds like he's reading his lines from cue cards. The biggest problem here though is the lack of that Pixar magic that made their earlier films so great -- instead, it's repetitious, pandering, and smells faintly of a cashgrab that didn't need to be made.

This film is certainly not a waste of their time, but it does seem to lack the heart and passion of all other Pixar projects. A big problem with it, I think, was that they made the comic relief character in the first film (Mater) into the main character in this one. Something about that just doesn’t work. It had some cute moments and beautiful animation, but I expected more from John Lasseter, the director of Toy Story (1995).

Probably the worst Pixar movie, but still enjoyable compared to other movies. The sequel was kind of unnecessary. The Mater jokes got old after a while. The first movie worked better because it didn't raise so many of the "if there are no humans, why do these things exist" questions, but this movie is full of those which are kind of annoying. Cars just aren't as fun as toys or robots. Hopefully this is the end of the franchise and Pixar can focus more on original movies.

Yes, yes, it's a kids film and that certainly can explain the simplistic plotting and terrible attempts at comedy. It doesn't explain just how inconsistent the whole world feels, to the point of being creepy and distracting. It also doesn't explain how a film with such intricate construction, which it clearly has despite being simplistic, can be such and incoherent mess. The conclusion is a mashup of conflicting themes that can't be satisfying to anybody.

So here's the sequel to Pixar's most divisive film, and I'm sad to report the coat doesn't shine as brightly this time. Cars 2 bares no resemblance to Pixar's other works apart from the striking animation; it lacks humor, heart and wonderment. It's fun, yes, but we don't love you for just fun, Pixar. I know we all take missteps, even slight ones like this. Dust yourselves off, get out of the car and back on the horse, you guys. We still love you, we still want you, and we'll all go see Brave.

Mater as a character is like someone out of Veggie Tales. Whenever he influences the plot it's a loss; He just isn't very well written, interesting or likable. It's saved by some great spy action, and Caine/Mortimer's fresher, more engaging characters prove that this should never have been a sequel in the first place. It could well have been Cars 2, but with all-new characters, as the old hands seem to be in the way more than anything. I give it a pass, but by Pixar standards it's disappointing.

Certainly not an abomination, with a few legitimately fun Bondian spy moments, but well below par for Pixar. I just sort of don't like Mater at all, and this whole movie is about him. Oh well, on to next year's Brave.

While one of Pixar's weaker films to be sure, the lack of heart or emotional storytelling is clearly by choice, and it makes up for it with its great action, top-notch animation, fun new characters (particularly the awesomesauce Finn McMissile) and its silly yet often amusing jokes. Be warned, though- Mater the tow truck is the star here, and your enjoyment largely depends on how capable you are of tolerating the character.

A completely unnecessary sequel, but it's far from the worst movie of the summer. The races lack any sort of dramatic weight (found myself wishing I was watching Speed Racer), and Mater's spy-story is like Mater himself -- kind of annoying. Still there are a lot of clever touches, and the movie has a few imaginative & gorgeous action sequences. Why did this get made? Because the original sold EIGHT BILLION DOLLARS in merch. If that money helps Disney/Marvel buy back Spider-Man, I'm cool with it.

It's actually not horrible, but it's underwhelming for a Pixar movie and, for the first time, it doesn't play to adults as well as kids.

Another Picture Perfect Film from Pixar. They have never failed. While no other company has done a good sequel for an animation film, pixar has no done it again and again. Cars 2 is exactly what you want to see. Family friendly fun for the whole family.

Wow. What happened Pixar? It's not like you not to care about the quality and overall reception of your movies. Kids liked it, adults and critics did not. Nor did I. It was silly, lacked depth, and was way too simple.
