Why is this movie so spat on? It's actually pretty damn decent.

A fun romp with a beautiful cast in a beautiful city. I quite enjoyed this lighthearted story and the overall adventure of it. The story is full of twists and turns and hilarious turns of fortune. Frequently bordering on silly it remains fun and engaging to the end.

A very poorly written film that unfortunately had a great deal of potential.

Heath Ledger deserved an Oscar for "Brokeback Mountain". And he deserved a Razzie for "Casanova".

This certainly could've been full of edge, deconstructing the soul of a man who treats women everywhere as the ultimate plaything. Instead we get a very vanilla overly sweet romcom of sorts where the lead character inexplicably changes his feathers for no real reason. Bleh. If you're interested in this sort of subject matter just watch Quills.

Heath Ledger was absolutely brilliant in "Brokeback Mountain", but only serviceable here as Casanova. It's not really his fault though; His character isn't represented well in the wrting. No, see this movie if you're an Oliver PLatt fan. He's absolutely hysterical! The ladies do nice work, too...

Like the character of Casanova himself, the movie is strictly meant for an evening of fun and games, becoming nothing but a fond, ever distant memory after dazzling with its one-note hedonistic display.

Kind of a Shakespearean farce style film. The main problem with it is Heath Ledger is too attractive to be Casanova. he didn't charm women with his looks, which is why the man is a legend. Anyway the cast are good, Oliver Platt always kicks ass, and its entertaining enough. Wouldn't buy it without renting first

This movie would be okay, if you do fancy this kind of movies. Hallström did candy looking story and I was not in it at all. Shooting was time after time also fine, but for Ledger they did not leave much to explore. He did best he could. Ken Stott was nice to see, Jeremy Irons not. The end was like from The Benny Hill Show.

How is it possible for the world's greatest seducer be portrayed as so bland and uninteresting? Ledger is just given nothing to work with here. He just floats around the periphery of the film, lost in the large ensemble cast of characters. The story is uninteresting and muddled - a hodge-podge of comic misunderstandings, pratfalls and double-entendres. It should have been called Carry On Casanova instead.

Visually stunning, with an excellent original score and excellent synchronization of the music with the characters. Further, the film manages to capture the pacing and mood of a genuine Shakespearean comedy, complete with literary contrivances and ridiculous yet hilarious twists. The script borrows liberally from The Merchant of Venice, and this works extremely well. The style, cinematography, colour and pacing are just right. Nothing like Shakespeare in Love; way better actually. Great film.

Casanova is a good looking, very happy movie about a man who can't keep it in his pants pursuing a woman who actually has ambitions in life. It should have been about her. Either way, neither of the two leads have any depth or reason to care about them, and because of the light tone, it's impossible to think any harm will befall them. It's well-acted and it looks very impressive, but it's all for naught because there isn't a story worth telling or a point worth raising contained in these frames.
