Worthy subject matter bungled by too heavy-handed and melodramatic treatment of both main characters. A great pity, as I'm sure much of the screenplay is accurate to true events, but an inability to present the Robbins character as anything more than a cardboard villian sinks any chance the film has of being moving or involving. As it is, Luke is fine in the leading role, and Robbins does what he can within the limited scope of his character, but the film is ultimately an abysmal misfire.

"For a 20th-century story, this how-to-make-a-terrorist biopic carries a very 21st-first century sense of constant social crisis, but a disappointingly slick approach drains away any risky politics." - Robert Keser

Something was missing from this movie, and it's something big. I never believed the character's motives and I never felt any connection with him or his cause. That should kill this movie--especially since the whole thing totally fizzles toward the end--but somehow it was worth watching, particularly for a strong Derek Luke. I also had fun guessing which accent Tim Robbins would employ next.
