Fassbender and West are charismatic guys, but that about sums up all the positive things. The suspense is build upon the Romans fear of the Picts. These are portrayed as gorgeous women with tight leather clothes which is pleasant to look at, but isn't exactly scary.

"I'm not a soldier, I'm a cook", says one of the Romans after he pulls his butcher knife off a man's bloody scull. That says it all. A cliché, but kind of awesome.

When an entire Roman legion is destroyed by the Picts, a small handful of surviving soldiers are forced to try and escape from deep within enemy territory. This is basically Apocalypto set in Ancient Britain, one long chase scene that leads sequentially from one bloody fight to the next. The story and acting are pretty one dimensional and straight forward, but there's TONS of CGI gore and limbs and heads flying everywhere. The tacked on love story sucks.

No, no, no. This is not a good movie. CGI blood looks terrible, the gore is exagerrated and at times, I felt like watching the world championship in cross-country running.

Another movie about the 9th legion of the Roman empire, atleast this one was better than the Eagle.

There were points were it was a fun watch, but the majority of the film is a chase sequence revolving around indistinguishable characters that I cared so very little about. The action scenes are not good enough to save the uninteresting plot, because they riddled with noticeable CGI blood and the fact that it's hard to tell if the characters you're watching fight are ones you've even seen before. Centurion is a mess of a film, and isn't one you should seek out.

Far better than the Eagle.

Was going to turn it off during the horrible opening credits, but the heads flying off every minute after that kept me going. Pleasant lil surprise.

At no point remotely interesting. The gore was - in line with the rest of the film - slobby.

When movies are gritty, muddy, bloody and involving angry Romans, I tend to accept weak scripts, clichés and lack of depth... Call it a character-flaw, but I enjoyed this movie.

Pretty good if you're into the gory roman soldier thing. It's entertaining, but there is almost no story and I kept waiting for the protagonist to show up. Were the romans supposed to be the good guys?

Why the hate? 'Aint nothing wrong with this movie. The acting is quite good, mostly because Michael Fassbender is quite good. The scenery is gorgeous, but not in a romantic way like in...say Braveheart. It's cold and off-putting, just as it should be. The violence is good, the action is good, I mean, it's a solid movie. And it's addressing a complex period in Roman history, where the Empire stopped expanding and began to dig in. For a mainstream movie it actually has some depth.

Superficial but decent entertainment for the 'it's sunday night and I haven't got anything better planned and oh god what am I doing with my life' kind of viewer. Which is me! Until people find a way to make CGI blood not look fake, it should be banned from films.

A passable action b-movie, just. The action scenes are frequent and gory but arnt impressive in terms of anything other than body count, the story is simple but works, although the details of it seemed questionable to me. What saved it was the fantastic use of the British countryside, some shots are fantastic and convey an incredible sense of the bleak and unforgiving nature of the landscape, look out for one stand out scene involving wolves and Noel Clarke.

This just wasn't very good. Cheaper production value than most TV shows. But the hilariously over-the-top gore and hacked-to-bits death scenes kept me fairly entertained throughout. And shirtless Michael Fassbender running a lot. There was that.

Passable for all the killing and bloodshed. Besides that, the story's been told a million times before. Left behind enemy lines and must fight your way home. Meh.

Exists on historically sketchy territory but this film works as a strange Roman Dirty Dozen/Great Escape. The action is decent with realistic gore scenes but the CGI bloodwork looks terrible. The setting is beautiful and Olga Kurylenko is convincing as the femme fatale in this. Just about anything is watchable with Fassbender and Dominic West involved as well. It follows very typical action set pieces but does it with enthusiasm. It's another entertaining albeit simple film by Neil Marshall.

Kind of "wrong way round"-movie, as the Romans are depicted as good guys. Great nature footage, otherwise boring. And the love interest....don't make me laugh.

Really just another standard adventure/action-romp that could have done with a more gripping story. Although the acting is solid and the scenery beautiful, the film just failed to grip me at any point despite the fact that I'm very interested in the setting and subject. Olga Kurylenko could hunt me any time, though!

Despite the excessive bluish filter, the movie is nice to look at and well and effectively cast. However the script is weak and some of the dialogues are extremely bad.

The areal view looks damn fine, but they did not have to use it so much that it's got inflation. The story was light as a feather and the exotic environment did not give anything I haven't seen before. And Olga Kurylenko showed the level of her acting and it fitted the movie.

Good pace, a lot of fun gore and a couple decent performances. Not Marshall's best, but not bad.

The director must have thought that more gore = BETTER FILM. Slightly boring, some "hahaha oh wow" in the so bad it's good scale, plain story of some roman bros hanging around. Saving private ryan meets Rome meets The Lord of The Rings (many scenes included). Meh.
