very simple story to make a movie, however it`s a tribute to `beauty`: costumes by Chanel, wonderful music of Stravinsky, `le sacre du printemps` as a ballet in the original choreography, creation of No 5, great art deco style decoration, Lalique objects... absolutely nothing that is unpleasant to the eye (when you combine all of the above with great cinematography I believe that is no surprise) The end could be better though...

"Ultimately, Kounen takes two hours to say not very much; one imagines him constantly barking, "more smoldering!" [but there's] a captivating, fully realizes recreation of the premiere...[of] The Rite of Spring..."

This film succeeds above all in its visual appearance which, arguably, indeed is the primary aim of a motion picture. Another cinematic virtue is also reached: it brings different art forms together. The characters, especially the one of Stravinsky, didn't convince me too much, though (compare it with "A Stravinsky Portrait" from year 1966). There is also some naivety concerning the music parts (probably also the dance- and fashion-). Nevertheless, f.ex. the Le Sacre-scene is truly great.

This is how I prefer my Coco Chanel: lean and mean, and with a darn sexy voice. The cinematography and the soundtrack try their best to cover up for the simple story.

Now this is a very bad movie. I haven't been this bored (going to the movies, at least; I think reading some Torben Grodal before going to bed might beat it) for a very long time. I guess they acted decently, but it was just so horribly hard to commit to, just plain. Without any nerve what - so - EVER. And that's simply the biggest must for a romantic film, no matter how beautiful the costumes, make-up or music.

Good. The love affair between a great designer and a greater musician. Great performances from the leads coupled with decent direction make this a nice little period romance. Especially recommended to Mikkelsen's fans.
