Summary: Romance and suspense in Paris, as a woman is pursued by several men who want a fortune her murdered husband had stolen. Who can she trust? (imdb)
Switching genres with remarkable flexibility, Donen's action flick "Charade" is a lot more than, erm, an action flick. It's one of the greatest romantic comedies of all times (surpassing other Hepburn movies such as "Roman Holiday"). But also one of the most intelligent mystery films. One of the most mindblowing adventure thrillers ever. One that has weird horror elements charmingly dispersed in it. One that is utterly enjoyable, featuring a tremendous cast and a suitably versatile score. Great!
An entertaining, silly thriller with a great cast. The movie effortlessly throws twists around with little care, and there are some very funny and amusing moments. The romance between Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn is a little hard to buy sometimes, but it doesn't really matter in this type of movie anyway.
A decent thriller. Cary Grant is superb as always, and Audrey Hepburn is good but not great in the leading role. The plot meanders aimlessly at some points, but it all leads up to some fairly suspenseful final few scenes.
This is a preposterously unfunny movie. It's like something that my grandmother would enjoy. It's trying to be cute and/or charming, but not once is it funny. It kind of reminds me of Mr. and Mrs. Smith from 2005, where some A level actors agree to do a shitty movie, and people seem to be won over by their charm alone. Attractive people standing around smiling at each other is neither sexy nor funny, although we're meant to think that it's both.
Very funny as well as very suspenseful, "Charade" is a romantic thriller that's reminiscent of Hitchcock while still standing on its own. It keeps you on the edge of your seat while still holding a subtle sense of humor the entire way Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn are, as usual, sensational.
