Pretty decent heist-and-hide movie with some cool leads. A bit of a shame that it never really becomes exciting, and as a viewer we're left guessing about Matthau's motivations until the very end. Oh, and his implied sex scene? Ew.

[ACHTUNG! It's long, don't read] This movie is a big surprise. It's very precise in both directing and scriptwriting. Till the end I thought there were holes in the story, but I was wrong (at least that's what I think). I liked the homage to "North by North-West". In Siegel's whole filmography this one stands out and is the most strange (in a good way). It looks so real and still manages to entertain. Also the characters have so much CHARACTER - once again the precision of the script.

Solid heist film--with Matthau playing a brilliant bankrobber. And, yes, I found his cleverness satisfying. (However, passing off Matthau as a stud that an attractive woman would instantly fall for is a bit much.) A good film to watch on a Saturday night.

Hugely enjoyable and influential heist movie. The plot, the dialogue, the unremittingly negative morality and the plain unfeasability of many of the goings on make this all the more attractive to watch. Brilliant psychopathic hitman played by Joe Don Baker.

An OK film. Matthau is good in an unusual role for him. Joe Don Baker is wonderfully menacing.

Except for that silly love scene that comes out of the blue, this could be a perfect movie.

A very good and under-seen crime film. Matthau comes across as reliable as always, and Joe Don Baker is more menacing in this than I have ever seen him. The executive secretary seemed a bit much at the end there, but overall this is a well-told crime story with lots of good scheming characters.

Joe Don is the fucking man, Don Siegel was quietly one of the better directors of the 70s.
