There is the feeling that, despite making The Ring, Nakata had a script dumped into his hands and wasn't allowed to take a more methodical take on the material, only given permission to interpret the internet as a grungy apartment complex, an interesting idea until its gets to the sex perverts and you're viewing a conservative take on a subject that could have been a lot thoughtful. The same is true for the main drive for the film despite admirably trying to deal with teen depression.
Chatroom is an intense movie, though a bit weird. It's an interesting concept (what if a chat room played out in real life), but the execution isn't great.
Not a bad film. I didn't know that the movie was gonna be like this... somewhere I read it was a comedy. Jokes on me. Anyway, the choice to make the internet physical was a great one, and so the movie had some nice cinematography. I like the look into the seedy part of the internet, though the movie could have used some more work in a bunch of different ways. Still, an interesting idea about a good subject... the idea may turn off people who LOLZ INTERNET.
