Summary: "Cheaper By the Dozen", based on the real-life story of the Gilbreth family, follows them from Providence, Rhode Island, to Montclair, New Jersey, and details the amusing anecdotes found in large families. Frank Gilbreth, Sr., was a pioneer in the field of motion study, and often used his family as guinea pigs (with amusing and sometimes embarrassing results). I was surprised to find that it's a pretty good film, it seems that the name has been heavily tarnished by a couple of poor modern remakes. It relies heavily on charm for entertainment and for the mostpart it works. Some of the more stupid moments spoil it a little, but generally it remains relatively simple, lighthearted family fun with plenty of nostalgia. By orientating itself around a heavily functional family, it provides a more mature viewing than its modern counterparts.
