Fleischer's wackily divergent Chess-Nuts isn't distinguished by outright brilliance that lends itself to heartfelt hilarity so much as how, during a time when other animation-heads worked to perfect image, its sexified, self-indulgent thematic display amounts to comparative subversion. If not laugh-out-loud funny, it's nonetheless a smile-inducing fit of Fleischer-fun, narrative creativity and bestial imagery.
