Viewed September 7, 2021. A crackling western about Dennis Morgan going undercover to solve a series of mysterious robberies. Like Walsh’s Pursued from the same year, this is as much a noir as it is a western; unlike that film’s heavy psychological bent, this is much punchier, more about desperation and pervasive cynicism. But it’s also often surprisingly funny, with a farcical bent to the story’s series of reversals and mistaken identities.

Surprisingly funny while dealing with the same bleakness that Walsh’s westerns do.

Almost too coy for its own good but just an excellently plotted movie. Keeps you on your toes. Looks v nice

"Cheyenne" spins the tale of a cunning gambler coerced into tracking a slippery thief that has eluded even the sharpest detective. Alongside the thrills, there's a forced romance, all delivered with a charismatic flair that endears you to the protagonist. It's a finely crafted western, boasting robust performances and a compelling story that's entertaining.

Having mainly seen Dennis Morgan in sappy romances and over-the-top musicals, it took some getting used to seeing him in a action-suspense western like this. He was almost too squeaky clean for this role. Not saying he was bad, just an adjustment as a viewer. The film had a lot going for it, but was probable best utilizing Morgan's flirty nature in the direction of Jane Wyman. The wild west stuff was fine, just not anything too original. But a highly polished western entertainer it was.
