Masteful staging creates a truly believable and threatening vision of the near future - entirely, yes, entirely masking the slight storyline.

Gripping and visceral, Children of Men keeps you hooked until the adrenaline rush of its pulse-pounding scenes wear off, after that, you're left with a decent future-piece that goes a bit overboard on the gray-tones. The film has its share of breathtaking visuals, but much of it is muddled up and overshadowed by the generally uninteresting hue of the environments. Blade Runner and Brazil managed to make the dystopian future interesting to look at, Children of Men, not so much.

Grim, grim movie. The acting isn't the point here, the anarchy and the quest are. But the bravura action serves as a stark background to the clarity that Clive Owen brings to his transformation.

This is the second time I saw this movie and again I must say I'm impressed. The director finds a perfect balance between suspense and social criticism, at once succeeding in catching all the action while at the same time unveiling the desperate social conditions in a seemingly nonchalant way. Clive Owen once again shows he's a terrific actor in a role that fits him best and Michael Caine makes his secondary character shine. Finally I have to remark that the the surroundings look incredible.
