Pretty fun found-footage superhero movie, with an enjoyable if predictable plot and cast.

This film could have been really good but it did just about everything wrong. Really annoying to watch.

A genuinely disturbing film particularly built upon by the elements of social realism. The acting is superb, and although the intelligent script veers off into clichéd territory at times, the premise itself isn't left behind, showing itself in favour of the exploration of a realistic depiction of superpowers. It's the CGI that's the icing on the cake.

I was disappointed because it was a "camera is held by the characters" movie, but other than that it was simply phenomenal! The main character was easy to sympathize with and the supporting cast played their roles very well. The premise was well executed, and the camera still managed to be cinematic at certain points.

Why save the world with your superpowers, when you can use them to do pranks at the local mall? A fun spin on the genre, that should've stucked with the low-key, high school style all the way.

The first hour is like watching a toddler play with a loaded gun. The ending is cool.

This movie is just excellent all around. The writing and acting for the three main characters is superb... very natural. I found the middle of the movie very difficult to watch for exactly that reason--as the kids' actions started to become more irresponsible, I was actually pained to see it happen. They did a lot of research when it came to the setting, Seattle. I live there, and I didn't find anything inaccurate about their portrayal at all. A bus seen for all of 5 seconds was even accurate!

Kind of got a feel for what the filmmaker was trying for but ultimately it came up short. Characters and story lacked depth. Found footage direction wasn't bad. This movie fails simply because it is poorly written.

Very realistic sci-fi film that looks at a regular group of high-schoolers and analyzes how they would react to gaining these powers. Felt the characters were very relatable and real.

The most predictable film I've ever seen. There's no tension or tragedy at all because it's obvious right away how things are going to play out, and then they do. The best scenes are of the characters discovering their powers for the first time, those are fun. A better film would have had the main character work through his issues instead of succumbing to them in the tiredest possible way. Also the found footage gimmick is totally superfluous and falls apart completely in the final act.

the other 2 leads make this movie watchable but the main character ruins what could have been a great film

There are some great laughs to be had when they first discover their powers but the rest is passable at best.

As a style, the shaky-cam thing remains, as with 'Cloverfield', a little gimmicky. Thankfully it's a lot more artfully done and does provide some intimacy and payoff at the climax. 'Chronicle' is a good take on superhero films; you watch it and think "Yeah, that IS what I'd do if I had superpowers," which gives it another layer of feasibility and realism. My main complaint is the linearity and predictability of the story. Entertaining, but not a classic.

Fast-paced and exciting. Good teenage drama. It's a bit of a shame how simple/one-sided the antagonist is in the latter part of the movie.

It pulls off a very clean display of cinematography, but the kryptonite for these teen superheroes turns out to be an uneven script with sloppy dialogue.

An unexpectedly good film, it takes two overused concepts, found footage movies and superhero movies, and turns it into this kind of tragic story that brings to mind the psyche of a school shooter.

Found footage is a difficult style to pull off but I think this is one of the best examples of found footage done right. Really satisfying to watch, the way the characters handle their newfound powers is intriguing and it's impossible for me not to cheer and laugh along with them.

While its first half is average at best and meh at worst, with some confusing writing and a first act that's beyond rushed, it makes up for that in its second half. With solid performances all around and a particularly great one by Dane DeHaan, it's fine for what it is. The darker moments are handled well, the descent of the characters is great. That said, the story is still lacking overall and the format felt unnecessary and contrived at points. Worth a look, but not the best of its kind.

Entertaining, but lacking everything it needed to make it epic. It's Hancock (a real world unique concept for a super hero movie) mixed with Cloverfield (Joe Everyman perspective of a recognised genre piece) with a dash of Carrie (telekinetic troubled teens). Special effects vary between awesome and crap. The film struggles to justify the "found footage" idea from the off, then gives up on it all together about half way through. Would have been better without it, nice try though.

Kind of a new spin on a very old idea, more of the human element. But everything feels a little understated, non-exceptional, mediocre.

The concept of the movie had potential. Comparable to the movie Jumper or Super 8, but the plot lacked depth and description. The budget was not enough to smooth out the special effects and to fund good acting performances.

This actually wasn't a bad movie, at least up until they started flying. I hate movies that still use the dated old "swing our legs back and forth to show that we're flying" gimmick.

There is definite potential behind this movie, given my love of superheroes and intrigue into the found footage style. Whilst at times its a good movie with believable interpretations and viewpoints, it lacks in the at times illogical and confusing character development. The story is also at times a little thin. However, I did enjoy the good use (bar the climax scenes) of the found footage in a way that improved on the overall feel of the movie.

Not a superhero movie. It is a superpower movie though. A group of once not so connected teenagers gain superpowers, and from that point they become friends and brothers. Soon though, their lives spin out of control. I really enjoyed this emotional journey that touches on some important topics like poverty, child abuse, high school popularity, meaning ect.
