Not a popcorn flick, but essential if one wants to consider himself a film buff.

I wonder what Welles would be able to do present day, maybe it would make me like this classic movie even more.

The best and most influential film of all time. That's it. Still have the same impact in year 3000.

It must've been great seeing this on the big screen when it came out, unencumbered by the weight of the praise Citizen Kane accumulated over the decades and it's status as the greatest movie of all time. Not my favorite, but certainly influential and enjoyable.

I assume having not yet watched many films from a similar era that Citizen Kane must have been revolutionary in its techniques. I admit the lighting is fantastic and even by modern technical standards it holds up very well but the story itself comes close to boring. The central characters life is certainly interesting by everyday standards but is it really a story worth telling. It is masterfully told but essentially its just another rise and fall story.

What else is there to say about this film that has not already been said in the most eloquent of ways by so many others? Citizen Kane is, quite simply, "the great American movie." Everyone is familiar with its groundbreaking technique, its deceptively complex narrative and themes, and its stirring performance from Orson Welles. To me, what makes Citizen Kane great is not any one of these parts; it's how they all fell into place so perfectly to form a perpetually modern piece of cinema.

Greatest film of all time? No. Very well acted, well shot and well written character piece? Hell yeah.

I like it more every time I see it.

A classic and a must see for any film fanatic. What else is there to say.

Great Movie or Greatest Movie?

A classic. The thesis of the screenplay (Kane was somebody who never loved anybody and therefore tried to get everybody in the world to love him) is awfully simplistic, but the baroque, innovative artistry of the direction and cinematography are simply astonishing--not to mention the best large ensemble cast ever to appear in a movie. All in all, it deserves its place in film history.

To be frank, I was disappointed with this one. Technically it seemed flawless with e.g. great cinematography, but story-wise it just did not appeal to me and didn't succeed in keeping my attention.
