Looks a bit cheap but has some recognizable stars and generally very good photography. The climax is a thrilling sequence on the elevated tracks. Talman is riveting as the vicious magician-turned-hitman. Most unusual is the character played by Chill Wills, who appears as a sort of guardian angel for Young. Very, very odd. In general, it's a satisfying look at the seedier side of humanity... a little slow to get started, but has some dynamite scenes and intriguing moments.

An unusual 50's crime film, strongly recommended to fans of the genre. One sequence is unforgettable.
