In real life, Michael Douglas may well be a lovely human being who makes one feel seen and appreciated, but man am I tired of watching him playing sanctimonious pricks for whom I'm supposed to feel empathy. Has he ever been likable? Has he ever been relatable? At least there's Geneviève Bujold who, gratuitous nudity aside, holds it down and demands some goddamn answers.

Touches a similar nerve as the Body Snatchers remake from around this same time, but much poppier, happy ending and all. Bujold is a good protagonist; Crichton, though no feminist, was wise to insist on her over execs who wanted a man in the role.

Not entirely devoid of believability problems and cliches (such as the mandatory "villain speech"), but still the best thing I've seen from Crichton. A simple yet effective thriller. Bujold is mostly good in the lead, Douglas adds intrigue as her complicated husband, and I've always had a thing for Widmark. Jerry Goldsmith's score is exceptionally dominant. Sometimes it feels like cheating because it adds so much extra tension to what's on screen, but it certainly shines.

Coma is a decent thriller, kept running by Bujold's central performance, a good supporting cast, and an attention to detail that brings out a primal fear of being put under the knife.

Good old-fashinioined conspiracy drama loaded with random nudity, awkward un-political correctness and Genevieve Bujold, who always seems to make that drinking-tart-lemonade face.

So I didn't realize this was a Robin Cook joint and then 95% of the dialogue turned out to be pretty dry medical jargon. Even still the movie has some pretty fun moments outside of that and the reveal of the Jefferson Institute is really something.

Efficient conspiracy thriller is highlighted by some nifty staging of suspense scenes by Crichton, and a nice supporting bit for Widmark, but is saddled with a dour leading performance from Bujold which barely engages any sympathy, and some distractingly dated and overdone "70s" attitudes and fashions. Overshadowed by Phil Kaufman's masterful BODY SNATCHERS reworking the same year, which has a similar mood and feel.

A humdrum thriller that relies too much on the protagonist's naivete and overlong cat-and-mouse chase scenes to build suspense. Performances were decent, at least.

Been looking to see this one again for years and so glad I did. Well written and acted sci-fi drama from Michael Crichton.

;) Polecam...

This film would have put me in a COMA if not for Widmark's boss performance.

All the '70s hairdos, clothes, and music date this to the point of unintentional comedy. Still not actually bad, but it's just so... *mainstream*, y'know? I can name movies from the '30s that have aged better

The Jefferson Institute is something out of a Cronenberg movie. I wonder if this film helped inspire him to make Dead Ringers. Good creepy thriller with a great cast.

So 70s, so weird, but still an entertaining classic. Geneviève Bujold is lovely and captivating.

A movie built on suspense, paranoia and cocaine. At least everyone looks like they are on cocaine, and these haircuts doesn't help either. It reminded me of late night TV from when I was a kid, and made me feel a bit nostalgic. The whole subplot of coma hospital is unneeded, but the set design in that scene looks awesome. Not very good but likable late-night movie.
