"Possibly the closet American relation to an Italian giallo." - Ed Gonzalez

It's a decent horror movie with quite effectively disturbing murder scenes, nods to Don't Look Now and giallo, and a very opaque mystery shrouding it all. The opacity is also its downfall, because few of the plot's key elements are made explicit enough for the viewer to follow what's going on and why. Even after the plot was resolved and the film ended I had to go and read the synopsis online to connect the dots, and they just don't connect very well.

A horror movie that doesn't follow conventions and just makes you uncomfortable, you know, in a good way. Who among us didn't dream of killing Brooke Shields?

Said to be one of the few American giallos in existence, it does not really live up to its reputation; I felt indifferent to it and its snail's pace and its uninteresting narrative. It had the potential to be a great film but it turned out not to be.

"Alice, Sweet Alice" is a horror film reminiscent of the Italian "Who Dunnit?" films. The killer wears a yellow rain slicker and a strange mask. It's kind of transparent but there it is also painted with red lips, blush, and eye shadow. The result is an obscured face that almost looks like a horrific drag queen. I loved the look of the mask so much that I bought one similar to it. "Alice, Sweet Alice" is a scary movie with an interesting story that will keep you guessing the whole time.

This is the best Catholic-themed verite-styled chiller ever lensed in New Jersey, a wonderfully perverse, low-budget "Bad Seed"-type tale.

Not you're typical horror film ...Strange movie a young girl jealous of her sister jealous enough to kill....The acting's a little over the top but most movies from this era are...My only major gripe with this is they sold out...They shoulda had Alice not the old lady kill the father & the priest

Proto-slasher with elements of giallo and the stylish visuals of Nicholas Roeg. Pretty much every performance is played with maximum amount of hysterics, almost making you jump when people speak in a normal tone of voice. Tense and damn near impossible to enjoy, it's still one to check out for the genre fan.

Strong anti-Catholic slasher. This impressive first film from Sole (who's done nothing notable since) makes good use of its restricted budget and features startling plot twists and bizarre murders recalling the early Dario Argento.

Somehow both brutal and atmospheric, with a plot that reveals itself slowly and never spells everything out for you explicitly. Easily one of the best horror films of the '70s.

Definitely very weird. Reminded me a bit of Don't look now.

Although I saw this a long time ago, I recall that there was something impressive about this film, and that the performance of Alphonso DeNoble was memorable.
