Despite a couple of (very occasional) amusing lines, this film remains one of the most frustrating docudramas the BBC has yet produced. The acting is -- generally speaking -- disgracefully bad, the plot completely without merit (full of holes and bad dialogue), and the characters without any trace of likability or realism. For a few minutes, it might seem to be some sort of postmodern comment on Mills and Boon itself, but the simpler answer is probably more true: it's complete and utter dreck.
