I wasn't in love with this flick. I didn't think it was that entertaining or anything or even that amazing from a film making perspective, except for the intelligence behind it, especially given the context of which it was made. It definitely examines the living conditions in a smart way. Oh, there was also a moment of inspired music as well but this is about it. It's not a dig really, everything else is competent just now awe-inducing. Still, it's IMPORTANT.

The full feature debut from Makavejev is a clever and fascinating low-budget ensemble drama. With its rare blend of social realism, humor and live, on-camera music, it seems to embody a cinematic style still prevalent in the works of current-day former-Yugoslav director Emir Kusturica.
