Wonderful hand drawn animation and some enjoyable Francophone folk music. This short was shown regularly on Canadian TV throughout my youth, I loved that little rocking chair.

A delightful cartoon that doesn't waste a single frame. It's filled with gorgeous colors, creative and often surreal scenes, and kitschy French Canadian music throughout. I also like that they tie in the memories of a by-gone era to nothing more than a simple rocking chair. Of course, what they don't show you is that the humble craftsman's great-granddaughter would become a professional...in Montreal's world-renowned strip club industry. Very good short.

Effectively conveys the passage of time, and the passage from one industrial epoch to another, yet the visuals and music failed really to excite this viewer.

Not a very elaborate short film by any means but its simplicity is really what makes it shine - the animation is absolutely beautiful with just the right music to fit the mood of the film. It represented well the recent changes in the last century or so of our history while just placing the emphasis on a small rocking chair. Pretty good short.

A charming little short. The animation manages to defy it simplicity to be really very beautiful at times. It's a oddly touching and uplifting piece of animation and as a lover of folk music from pretty much anywhere I enjoyed the soundtrack too.

I remember seeing this when I was a kid; in adulthood, it took me forever to figure out what it was. By pure chance I wandered into a museum exhibit recently featuring Back's work, and I finally realized. A recent re-viewing of this animation shows it to be even better than I remembered

A magnificent little short film. Director Frederic Back eschews dialogue in favor of expressive animation and invigorating music that plays throughout. The film captures the realities of family life as the decades pass, the changes that take place in the surrounding world, and the way that the beauty of a simple act of love carries on to previously unimagined destinations.

Meh, it felt kind of trite and silly although some of the visuals were rather pretty.

Pretty fantastic visuals and unique animation. It's a bit long, but it's still great.
