Summary: Dr. Steven Sorenson (Andrews) plans to tap the geothermal energy of the Earth's interior by means of a thermonuclear device detonated deep within the Earth. Despite dire warnings by fellow scientist Ted Rampion (Moore), Dr Sorenson proceeds with the experiment after secretly learning that he is terminally ill. This experiment causes a crack to form and grow within the earth's crust, which threatens to split the earth in two if it is not stopped in time. (imdb)

Good, thoughtful science fiction, if a bit slow-paced.

"You're mad! You're playing God!" "Pray!" I first saw this as a little kid in Reno (in the childcare center while my mom went off to play the slots). Nowadays it would probably be considered "inappropriate for younger viewers" (or something wienie), but I loved it. It features lots of explosions, and the usual gush of scientific-sounding folderol. Andrews plays his typical character in later years, the Total Jerk. Scott is great, and Moore is like Christopher Lee.
