Jean Painleve crafts an absorbing, at times almost hallucinogenic, tribute to the complexity of the moving image. Critaux Liquides captures myriad sea changes with remarkable beauty and gravity. Finding perfectly complementary music, it's evocative, kaleidoscopic and truly poetic.

I guess it would have intrigued me more if I were on LSD... but I wasn't.

Visuals are too abstract and freed from observable reality to be interesting; it's no more fascinating than a kaleidoscope. I'm not really buying Yo La Tengo's no-wave impression either.

Nature on acid - love the rhythm that visuals and music create - but hey, I also like kaleidoscopes.
