Could have used a bit more a plot, but for what it is, it's pretty well done. Great soundtrack.

Sweet and revealing - the low-key vignette style really plays to Lee's strengths. The anamorphic distortion shit at Viola's gets old fast, though, making one of its longest segments the absolute worst.

A really warm and heartfelt work by Spike Lee. Based partially on his own childhood, the film really shines in displaying a family dynamic at work. The performances are great, including the child actors - which is rare in films which feature such a big cast. The plot is thin, it feels more like an insight into the family's life - which causes problems when the last act kind of speeds up the pace dramatically. It's incredibly heartfelt - Lee works best when he cares for his characters.

It's a well made look at what life was like for people in this situation and time, but to be completely honest, that just doesn't interest me very much. The constant bickering bothered me, and I mostly felt annoyed while watching it.

A peaceful, nostalgic version of Do the Right Thing with a killer soundtrack. Spike doesn't worry about plot and instead he gives us great, realisitic characters and situations that make this movie a joy to watch.

Lee's political sledgehammers are barely anywhere to be seen, leaving a sweet, heartfelt mixture of nostalgia and comedy and drama that rings true. He throws in a few surreal touches. The performances are excellent across the board. Even if the film isn't especially groundbreaking, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it's now one of my favorites by Lee. And I've got to add a special mention for the soundtrack, a terrific collection of period gems.

Spike Lee always had trouble with plots, so here he pretty much tosses plot out the window and goes for a "lived in" slice of life effect. Which captivates me everytime I see it. Just a beautiful, perfect, sad, nostalgic picture.

Spike Lee is less irritating here than usual, in a semi autobiographical number with a good cast.

Easily captures the best moments of childhood and also the inherent sadness. Great film.
