Summary: The disappearance of a magical jade sword spurs a breathtaking quest for the missing treasure. Li is embittered by the loss of his jade sword, and his unrequited pursuit of Yu is further complicated by the mysterious intrusion of an assassin. The identity of the assassin is gradually unveiled as another poignant tale of love begins to ravel with that of Li and Yu against the backdrop of Western China's magnificent landscape. (imdb)

Great movie. Something else than the things we're used to nowadays, but surely enjoyable. Even more than that. Great story, not that emotional but a beautiful love story troughout the film, full of action(superb fighting-scenes!)

A new classic for the wuxia genre as envisioned by Ang Lee. What makes this special is the beautiful cinematography and the fact that Lee played the mysticism of the genre straight with little of the camp comedy or melodrama common in this genre. Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh, and Zhang Ziyi are all especially strong in their roles. Those that criticize the wire-work fail to comprehend this is Asia's version of a superhero story. The swordsman are meant to be mystical.
