It's got a few enjoyable moments that prevent it from being totally garbage. However the leads have no chemistry whatsoever and the action scenes gradually progress into downright absurdity, you'd honestly think you're watching a Jerry Bruckheimer/Michael Bay movie with all the explosions that happen for no discernible reason. Simply put a lot of this falls flat making the flaws stand out even more.

Watchable, but a bit boring for the adventure film. I liked it when I was a teen, now I'm not that impressible by Geena Davis' cleavage. Can't really see what it ran so badly in the box office, because there are shitloads of worse movies that made a good business.

An alright pirate film. A little cliche at times, but it works considering at the time there really wasn't much else in this genre.

A damn fun adventure; while I normally hate "female badass in unrealistic vocation", Geena Davis acquits herself very well, playing the role with a wink and a nod. In fact, the entire tone of the movie is light-hearted and humorous, never getting too serious, even during its climax. It's funny, action-packed, and has some great supporting characters. The best thing going for it is the presentation and non-stop pace; it helps make up for some of the weaker scenes in the script. Good film.

Mushy pablum movie. There's nothing to like or hate. It might've been a better film if the protagonists were played by people with a single drop of charisma. Geena Davis sounds like she's reading cue cards the entire time. I kept going to watch Frank Langella devour every scene he is in.

Dull. Geena Davis and Matt Modine make for crummy leads.

Not as bad as Roman Polanski's Pirates ten years earlier. There was no Disney producing it, but I doubt it would have helpped anyhow.

It's a pirate movie with explosions, not an epic classic with award winning acting. Maybe it's Geena Davis who sunk this movie, I liked about everything else but her.
